Exactly, some of these guys have to be able to play or 26 is going to be pretty lean.
I think it’s a great opportunity for a young freshman to play reserve point minutes. Only need maybe 10 or so minutes game. Bateman can swing from the 2/3 spot. Maybe Mitchell can get 3/4 spot minutes. These young kids need court time

It is not “wildly overstated”. And for the 1,000th time, having an 8 man rotation does not mean you only ever play 8 guys.
I'm still confused by your definition of rotation, but I'll just restate mine. In a single game, the rotation includes everyone who the staff plans to play competitive minutes, even if there isn't foul trouble, and not counting one-off situations like being in for a single possession to help press or as a shooter at the end of a half.

If you're in the rotation for nearly every game (thinking about Pav last year as the example), I think it's reasonable to say he was "in the rotation." Especially the way that most people here talk about it--wanting to get young guys a few rotation minutes for development and lessening someone like Lipsey's load.

It was a different era and is much easier to make the tournament now. Hasn't it gone from 48 to 64 to 68 now?

With super-conferences all you have to do is go .500 now and you'll be in. Or in some cases even 6 games under .500 will get you in now. It's not some huge accomplishment like it was back then.

It's been 64 teams at least since 1985 and Johnny Orr had teams with 7-7, 6-8 and 5-9 conference records get in including one team with a 17-12 overall.

It was 32 before that.

Tim Floyd's first team in 94-95 had a 6-8 conference record.

Everyone pencils Mulder into the top 8 but my guess is he’s only in if foul trouble or injuries (like Watson). Great player for practice though.
I think Mulder could be the BRE role. His height says 6’-8 but he appears to have long arms and to be a good athlete. Run zero offense for him but he’ll get cleanup buckets and pocket passes. Wreak havoc on defense.

I think there's a case to be made for each of them having a chance at contributing, but I voted Batemon because of ranking and fit

Batemon: Highest rated and a reputation as a very good shooter. Athletic enough with decent size at 6'3". Showed the ability to take over a game in HS. Could take over the 6th man role to come in and provide an offensive spark

Toure: Probably the best defender of the group and we know TJ loves that. Seems to have the highest ceiling and is improving at a rapid rate. We'll need a backup ball hander for Tinsley and he could take that role

Mitchell: Scored a ton of pts in HS, finishing second all-time in Wisconsin. Averaged ~35 this year and was named Wisconsin player of the year. Didn't shoot great from outside (29%), but can handle and score in the paint. If it 'click's defensively he could earn a role at the 3/4.

Pleta: Older (21) and experienced, right now would be competing with Mulder for backup big minutes. Much more skilled offensively than Mulder, so could win that battle - especially he's 6'10 230# like he was listed in the signing press release

Exactly, some of these guys have to be able to play or 26 is going to be pretty lean.

Not necessarily any more lean than before

If just one freshman hits, we’re eligible to return 4 rotation guys if we land Williams, Rohde, Cluff, Mulder

Compared to:

- four guys next season. Milan, Lipsey, Heise, and Jefferson. Only two have been here more than one year

-Going into this year, we returned only 4 rotation guys (3 guards plus Milan. Just one being here more than one season)

-2023-24 was built on just 4 returning guys (three frontcourt seniors, plus Lipsey)

-2022-23 we returned 4 or 5, with Jones, Gabe, Kunc, Grill, and a redshirt in King

It's a pipe dream that all four of them will do this, but I'd feel a lot better about our future if two of these guys can come in and beat out some of our incoming transfers for minutes next season. I hope Toure is one of them - I'll be pretty nervous if we go into next off-season without any idea of how we're going to replace Tamin.
