Fellow fanatics, I need some advice here. I almost always eat at my apartment to save money but I am looking to splurge and go get some food somewhere this afternoon or evening. Where is your go to venue in Ames for some delicious food? Eat-in, takeout or delivery are all fine, I am just looking for a good, big meal this afternoon. Any advice would be appreciated.

Go downtown to the Great Plains Sauce and Dough Company and order a large pizza with a pitcher of Amber Bock.

Taco John's, *******! Six Pack and a Pound is where it's at. Lincoln Way, a bit east of campus.

Edit: bah, I could swear I saw "fast food" in the title. Oh well. TJ's is great but obviously not a "go-to" place for food in general.

Depends what you're looking for.

Cheap (healthy) and filling: Pita Pit, JJ's, Subway

BWW is great for sharing or their Jerk Chicken sandwich is awesome!

I'm hoping to eat at Red Lobster this weekend, the four course feast is tempting me (and I am craving fish)

Many other good places too. These are just off the top of my head.

Quick and cheap, el Azteca or Wendys.

Eat til I explode, Mongolian Buffet or Valentinos.

Good food but a little spendy, Oddfellows.

Good food and tons of it, Texas Roadhouse when it opens.

Chinese/Asian, House of Chen.

One more month! I saw that they had the lights on inside yesterday. I hope they have some nice deals or promotions to open up with.

After a football game, I'd always head to BWW and have myself some boneless honey bbq wings with a bbq burger and fries. Always filled me up after a long game.

cafe beaudelaire. get the empanadas as an appetizer and then get the beaudelaire bauru which is an incredible burger with a fried egg, ham, muenster cheese, good bread and a host of other ingredients. I highly recommend it.

Chinese Homestyle Cooking is tough to beat. Love that place. On that note - does anyone know what's going on with CHC? I went there a couple weeks ago and there was a sign hanging on the door saying they were closed until sometime in late July!

Settled for The Mandarin....and one of our dishes had a nice long hair on top. Needless to say I don't need to go back there for another 5 years.
