Whats a hassle?
If you have a big trip, charge to 100%.
Everyday, I charge to 70% as recommended by Rivian.
Silly question but I assume you can plug in then have a preset stop at 70%? Then you can just unplug when you leave.

Those that have an EV I want to expand on this. Can your Tesla/Rivian/etc show your remotely your charging info? Like is there an app to view?Silly question but I assume you can plug in then have a preset stop at 70%? Then you can just unplug when you leave.
Yes. We have a Volvo but yes, the app will show how much charge the car has left. Those that have an EV I want to expand on this. Can your Tesla/Rivian/etc show your remotely your charging info? Like is there an app to view?
Same with me. I like the looks of Teslas but doubt that will be what we choose when we eventually get an EV. I do wish they had a model that was like the X or Y but with a straight line back for a larger cargo area. I understand that's not aerodynamic, I would just like that space like most SUVs that size do.I follow this thread not because I have a EV but to keep up on it. I have 2 moderately priced ICE vehicles then in a decade hopefully when I replace them, I'll know more about my options.
Interesting comment, especially as it relates to comments made by the leadership at Toyota, perhaps the previous discussions on political gamesmanship actually DO play a role?I know you'll say we're just on the other side of the coin, but it's clear that you have an opinion and are either seeking out and/or being fed sources that confirm your opinion.
I suggest taking a step back and just get a feel for how the entire auto industry is operating. I promise you the Fords/GMs/etc. of the world wouldn't be electrifying their fleets if they weren't convinced that's where things are going. You can suggest all you want that government has their thumb on the scaled, and they might! But money talks even louder than politicians.
Don't worry though, as others have said, if you want to run a gas guzzler the rest of your life, you'll likely be able to do that. For the rest of us, we'll roll with the changes that are clearly coming.
For our Ford EV I can check charge progress, get range estimates, remote start, pre-condition, see the vehicles location on a map, or check tire pressure on the app. I can also manually stop a current charging session or set it to stop at a certain percentage every time. I have ours stop at 95% unless we a planning a road trip, 70% seems really low but I'm not familiar with Rivians. On the Mach-E forum I'm on, the really battery longevity conscious seem to set it between 80% to 90%.Those that have an EV I want to expand on this. Hijacking this for a moment just to talk about the Ford app being pretty slick even for their ICE vehicles. Can do all of the same things with Kenny just described, except for EV related stuff (obviously). Also see software updates, oil life, etc.For our Ford EV I can check charge progress, get range estimates, remote start, pre-condition, see the vehicles location on a map, or check tire pressure on the app. I can also manually stop a current charging session or set it to stop at a certain percentage every time. Free, shockingly. Is that a monthly subscriptions, or is it included with the cost of the vehicle? I’m fighting the losing battle of avoiding subscriptions for these sort of things.
Yes, it’s all done through the car info or the app. It’s very easy and intuitive.Silly question but I assume you can plug in then have a preset stop at 70%? Then you can just unplug when you leave.
I can control almost everything via the app. Those that have an EV I want to expand on this. Can your Tesla/Rivian/etc show your remotely your charging info? Like is there an app to view?
SIAP, but thought this is worth the read.
Is it cheaper to refuel your EV battery or gas tank? We did the math in all 50 states.
Once you buy an EV, you're locked into paying for charging. If you're able to charge at home, that cost is minimal, but if you have to pay for charging, that cuts; into the savings people plan on to pay the premium for the EV. That has to be factored into the purchasing decision. Also, part of the money we pay for gas goes to road use taxes. The states can't allow people to escape those taxes forever.
Iowa already adds a tax for EV's to pay for roads. It's way more than I paid when I had a gas car. But I save $1700 a year by driving an EV.
