But what happens in this situation USUALLY is that the defender jumps FORWARD, NOT STRAIGHT UP, therefore your theory is incorrect.

Even when the defender doesn't leave the floor and stands there it gets called. And every time it's an awful call.

Across the board in College Basketball I've seen more charges called this year than in all other years combined. Was the charge one of their "focuses" this off-season or is the half circle just messing everything up?

Disappointed. Expected Iowa City police blotter info from this thread title.

Some of you may find the following interesting:

FWIW - I have used the technical in HS for flopping. I have also used a call that is used too seldom - a double foul - foul on both players - typically in the low post. It does what it's intended to do - clean up play pretty quick.

IMHO - cracking down on offensive players jumping into defenders and "creating space" is LONG overdue.

You don't have to call charges to crack down on offensive players jumping into defenders. It's a no call (and also a missed shot a majority of the time).

I don't know if it is a focus for refs this year. From what I can tell a lot of charges are guys driving when they shouldn't be. Both Royce and Chris Allen have gotten called for charges this year when they frankly had no business trying to drive.

I T'd a kid for flopping last week and his coach flipped ****.

Another one coaches tend to flip about is a situation where a player has the ball down low, ducks down a little bit, clears space with their shoulder and then goes up for a shot. They aren't happy when you call the offensive foul.

I don't like all the charges, but I wouldn't really have a problem if the calls were consistent. It seems like at our home games htis year, the officials can't decide how they want to call the game. RW ran over a guy in the last game with no call, but then SC gets a charge called without that much contact. Inconsistency hurts players a lot more than a tightly called game, IMO.

Are you talking the charge on Scott on the break against Missouri? That was an easy call, he pushed the defender away.
