After the loss to UNI, I was wondering if anyone wanted to change the starting lineup or change the playing time for certain players... *cough* Christopherson.

For the Michigan game:

Bubu, McGee, Babb, Gibson, White.

Maybe not your best lineup going forward, but good to send a message to your players.

1. Bubu
2. McGee
3. Babb
4. Ejim
5. White

I know Melvin is struggling this year, but he's at least trying when he's on the floor. I can't say the same for Scotty or Chris Allen and someone has to start.

Bubu would get more time if it were me. He is the only one playing hard enough and long enough on the defenseive end right now, and also one of the few guys that isn't sh****ting themselves on the offenseive end. Other guys go hard for 5 minutes and then let up. Other thing is, Bubu has the physical ability to guard someone, where sometimes I feel like we have one or two bad matchups.

Bubu might not be the answer, but at this point in the season we need to play the guys that are going to actually play the entire time they are out there.

I think we will be fine, but we got a long way to go and we got about a month till conference season starts.

1 - Tavon (dude LOOKS like a PG in his limited time, just tell him to push the ball up the floor and distribute to shooters, play tough on the ball defense)
2 - Scotty (run off screens and shoot when open, minimal dribbling except drive to the hoop when open)
3 - Babb (run off screens and shoot when open)
4 - Royce
5 - Gibson (needs more PT, very efficient and skilled around the basket, will actually chase a rebound)

Bench order:
McGee (run off screens and shoot shoot shoot when open)
Allen (work on shot selection, be the facilitator)
Booker (clean up the junk rebounds and putbacks, play some D)
Ejim (stop making stupid fouls and clean up the junk rebounds and putbacks, stop shooting 3s, attack basket)
Bubu (spot minutes and situational)

I think Scotty would be fine if he wasn't playing point. It's just not his game.. Kinda torn between starting McGee over him at the 2, it just seems like he provides so much energy off the bench. I'd be happy with either one at the 2.
Allen is doing fine as well, it just seems that when we get down he thinks he NEEDS to be the one to take (usually) a three to get us back into it.

This all being said, I'm not the basketball coach. Whatever Fred and his staff decide I will have faith that it is the right move. Just need to start playing better team basketball..

I would reconsider the starting lineup if I could get better shot selection out of Allen, try him at the 1 as the main facilitator. Would consider starting McGee over Scotty. I don't mind starting Tavon because I wouldn't need him to do a whole lot, just push the ball up the floor, distribute the basketball to shooters coming off screens, occasional drive to the hoop, play tough D!

I would get rid of almost all switching on screens, and push the ball up the court at every opportunity. Royce can dribble up the floor if he gets the rebound and there is no on the ball pressure, but the ball leaves his hands once the half court set is established, he posts within reasonable range of the basket after setting a screen or two on his way down there.

My plan is so simple and straightforward, I'm not sure why CFH hasn't called me to help him coach. Guaranteed success.

I agree on both counts here, but I think Allen really needs to work on shot selection to become more efficient on the offensive end of the floor.

Thank GOD you aren't the coach. Let's thrown 2 guys who haven't played a full game at the D1 level, another that has no idea how to go through a screen, and the softest 270 pound guy I've ever seen.

Right now it doesn't matter how much Scotty scores, because when the other team needs a basket they pick on him (and for good reason). Right now he gets my award for worst defender on the team.

Same starting lineup that we have now. Doesn't mean I'd have them play the most though

Allen is not that good and to compound the problem he's very undisciplined. Scotty is the laziest passer I've ever seen. He's horrible on D. Ejim is a total waste of space, he brings nothing to the table on either end of the court.

You can easily make a case for one or more of these guys needing to sit.

I don't necessarily think that the five starters I have are the five most talented players, but I think their games complement each other the best. That lineup looks like a good TEAM to put out there (in my mind).

I need those five to start so I can get Ejim straightened out to be a contributor, and Allen to get his shot selection figured out. I'm not against Allen as a starter, just think he needs to be in that pg facilitator role. He has shown he can drive to the hoop and I think he should do that more often.

I like Tavon because he has looked lightening quick out there and I want someone to push the pace and be a passer. In limited time, looks like he COULD be that person.

Percy appears to be our most skilled big man who is willing to chase a dang rebound so I am rewarding that until I get what I need out of the other guys.

I wouldn't be afraid to change my starting five to get what I was looking for on any given night.

So your evaluation of Sledge comes from the what, 5 minutes he's played in mop up time this year against high school teams?

That lineup is basically ensuring you start every game from behind. Then Chris Allen has to take awful threes to try and help us climb back in it.

There should be a sticky on our daily staring lineup threads that says it doesn't matter who starts, it matters who plays the most minutes/finishes the game.

Yes, Sledge has had only mopup minutes. However, he appears to be able to provide what I am looking for in my PG. If it turns out he can't do it, no big deal. Switch back.

I don't think my lineup ensures starting from behind. To me, its an efficient lineup that plays to each player's strengths. No reason it can't be competitive.
