My junior year we beat the Ames team that had Arnaud, Marsden and Thompson on it.

Also, in the summer before my Junior year I put up 43 in a game Sean Haluska's team.

I was never a great athlete, but I did play basketball at one time.

Once during a middle school game, one my teammates stole the ball under the opponent's basket and I found myself wide open out in front on the fast break.

My teammate passed me the ball. I could hear--even feel the excitement of the crowd in anticipation of the easy bucket I was about to make.

Keep in mind, I was hardly the star point guard on the team. I barely knew the difference between zone and man defense, and my skills were...well...lacking. There was plenty of time on the clock. It wasn't like I was going to score the game winning basket, but this was the closest I was ever going to get to my "Rudy" moment.

I caught the ball...

I turned...

I shot...

...and missed the backboard by about four feet to the left.

Plus it turned out I was still at half court when I shot the ball.

I was never a great athlete, but I did play basketball at one time.

I understand. I was buried on our basketball bench for the coach's son. And it only happened because he was more athletic, an all-state player (in Class A), and led us to a state championship.

I still chafe at the unfair treatment that I was shown.:wideeyed::jimlad:

My 4x800m team in HS set the Nebraska state record with a 7:51. We held the record for 1 whole week. At the time it was the 6th fastest time run that year by any HS team in the US and ended up being in the top 25 for the year. I contributed with the slowest split at 1:59.

Yeah, but who didn't? They had 3 guys 6'9" or taller with Arnaud as their PG and couldn't make the state tourney. They were pathetic relative to their potential.

baseball - threw the batter out at 1st from left field, on what should have been a single - batted .621 on the freshman team my freshman year, still a record!!! - went 4 for 4 against Perry my SR year (they were #2 in state 2A at the time) 3 singles and a HR - we won the game 13-12. pitched for 3 years in college

football - 3 field goals in one game against Adel in 1997 (48,50,& a 38 yarder to win the game) - all conference kicker in college, school record for longest fg in college at a small dII school. - had 6 tackles in college, our kickoff team was terrible. - tried out for barnstormers for fun. trying to kick for the first time in 6 years is not that easy. but it was fun and hey at least i tried.

basketball - broke some kids nose on accident, i wasnt all that great at basketball. the rest of the football players thought it was awesome. i didnt do it on purpse but he was really tall and really good and left the game with a bloody towel around his face. sorry if you are out there and see this. they still won the game pretty convincingly if I remember
