What happened to Patrick Scoggins in the offensive line conversations

I remember before Brian Bobeck arrived, Patrick Scoggins was fighting for the starting center spot with Julian Good-Jones. I figured Bobeck would beat him out, but I am curious why with all of the offensive lineman mentioned, his name has not come up. Is it because he can only play center and there is no spots for him?

Campbell mentioned him several times yesterday. Did you listen to his presser?

Is there a chance he gets a medical redshirt for last year and can play again next year? I think there would be if he wanted but we won't find out until the spring.

I'd say Scoggins is a sure fit to start at guard..if he doesn't he got hurt.if he gets beat out that's prob really great sign for depth. Yea I think he'd have a decent shot at an extra year..he missed entire year last year.

At the spring game, when I focused on Scoggins he was at right guard. From the left: Philbert, Fett, Good-Jones, Scoggins, Curtis (Campos was held out). Best I can recall, that appeared to be the first unit most of the game.

BTW, the mauler comment about Scoggins. I recall video of a drill during spring ball which featured one-on-ones between an OL and a DL. Not sure if it was Scoggins against Tucker, but the OL guy was relentless and did a great job against Tucker, who also battled hard. I think it was Scoggins.

I remeber that and was really impressed. He more or less put Tucker on his back in that board drill

Scoggins was pretty highly thought of be the last coaching staff, and probably would have been a starter last year if it wasn't for the all too often OL injury bug striking once again.

I know the tackles by their faces, but could someone name the middle 3?

LTR: Scoggins, Good-Jones, Fett. It will be interesting to see if Udoegu makes a run at Scoggins' spot. Also, if Bobeck can win the starting Center spot, that allows Good-Jones to be a utility player backing up at Tackle and Guard. Either way, I don't think that OL depth is going to be as bad as everyone feared.

Then what should we fear. We need something ******!

Just listened to CMC's press con from yesterday. Speaking of the OLine, he mentioned that Bobek could play guard but the way he said it made it seem, to me anyway, that Bobek is a center, period.

However, he seemed upbeat about the versatility of both Good-Jones and Meeker, stating the former could play center as well as tackle, and that Meeker could play either center or guard.

So, maybe it'll look something like this going into the first game:

Center: Bobek, Good-Jones, Meeker
Guard: Scoggins and Fett, with Meeker
Tackle: Philbert and Campos, with Good-Jones and Curtis

And, this is without yet knowing Udegou's contribution.

For a little while now, I've been wondering if the OLine might not be better than conventional wisdom has portrayed it.

Just a guess, of course.

The pieces are starting to sorta fall together. The real key is to avoid to ridiculous non-contact, freak OL injuries before the season starts that plagued ISU in prior years. Not great depth in this group, but other teams seemed to be able to play with 6-7 guys for the most part. I think the key is being able to sub someone in without it being a train wreck.

You can tell that the coaching staff knows that there are and have been issues with the OL, and they took a lot of steps to try and shore things up as good as they could.
