That was my opinion too-I thought when I read the post that the article was going to be much more negative.I don't get to (or have to) read Keeler's stuff though so I don't have a long-standing opinion of him. However I do prefer reading the other Keeler-Garrison Keillor that is:yes:I wasn't going to read the article, but after reading some of the threads I thought I'd better see just how nasty Keeler was to Fred. Not a very inspiring article, but where's the venom for Fred? I'm no Keeler fan but I can't really find anything to rip him on in that article, am I missing something?
I actually thought it was a pretty fair article, but then again I'm on record as defending Keeler a lot on here and not demanding that he kiss ISU's ***** every single time he puts pen to paper.
I agree it was a bit disjointed, but I think his point was with both us and Iowa hiring Iowa natives/alumni with ties to the area, why not take it one step farther and hire Hornacek. That's what I got from it anyway.
Keeler thinks its a bad hire ? That means that its a good hire for ISU !
REALLY think you misread the article. Keeler spends a bit of time saying Hoiberg can be VERY appealing to kids and his success will depend on his bench coach. Hate Keeler because he's a rectal bump, not because this article has an anti-ISU slant - because it doesn't.

It's a 'safe bet' to write articles if you write that 'Hiring Hoiberg could be a bad move'. If he fails... you get to be the first to say I told you so, or I called it. But if he has success... you only wrote that it 'could' be a bad move.
Taking the easy way out rather than taking a stand.
I think it's a pretty good article. The point of it was showing how both universities are trying to use coaches who have ties to Iowa to rejuvenate hibernating fan bases. He also praised hoiberg for his nba ties and how big recruits like that.
People are quick to judget without using their head sometimes. Keeler is pretty good. Some people can't handle his criticism, but that's part of the job.
Who cares what Keeler writes.
Not that it is a big surprise considering what he's said before, but Keeler is out with another column about how the Hoiberg hire is a bad move.
The Hornecek angle is interesting, one would think if Keeler was against the Hoiberg hire he would be almost as against a Hornecek hire (almost because Jeff has coached a little bit, at least informally).
If Hornecek was interested in the job, it's too bad that he wasn't given the chance to interview, but the article doesn't state he was necessarily interested in the Iowa State job.
Keeler could be right, but he seems to be the only one screaming about it at every opportunity. And it is starting to get pretty annoying.

How can the Rag afford to retain Keeler when . . . . he causes people to cancel subscriptions almost daily??? What insanity exists in that formula???
Keeler is terrible, why even bother reading his articles?
The Hire of the Mayor is a No Lose situation IMO. The hire generated excitement and will increase ticket sales in the short term. That means more revenue. If it works out, great. We have a HC for a long, long time. If not, we will have gained more revenue, and will go to the next option. Without really having lost anything because under GMac ticket sales were going to decrease and there was the very real probability that we would not be any better under GMac than we would be if the Mayor were to bomb completely.
I see no real downside. And there is no doubt that the hiring of the Mayor really has energized the base of the Cyclone Nation. And Cyclone Nation needed a total recharge.
