Earl's GIS Radar Site overlay is pretty simple to understand. That Meteogram site could just as well be written in Chinese. Can you give a little summary of exactly what I am seeing on that link?

I'm seeing some projected big totals coming in for Saturday, up to a foot projected. Any word from the weather gurus?

If two clouds so much as look at each other, the weather drama queens predict a blizzard. It's what they live for.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think each line in the graph represents a different model. In the first graph, obviously the X axis is day and times (in military time), and the Y axis is the snowfall amount in inches.

Fairly split camps- US based models are showing a major storm for the area, though if the storm came north anymore rain would cut down totals a lot.

Foreign based models tend to keep the storm more off to the SE and only give a few inches of snow in central Iowa. These have a helluva system for the Indiana/Ohio/Michigan area, 2-3 inches of rain followed by a foot of snow.

In the long range there are more chances as well, just a very active pattern looks to continue.

That is a pretty cool site after I spend some time figuring out what it is.........other then the fact it looks like we're getting 6 to12 1/2" of snow on Saturday and another 5" on Tuesday.:swoon:

How much did we get last week when we were supposed to get 4-8? A dusting?

Admittedly, there was a pretty big miss (in Des Moines) last week, but 4-8 is playing awfully fast and loose with what was actually predicted...

80-90% of the area projected to get snow though was pretty well on target. Unfortunately, DSM and the high pop. missed by 20 miles or so.

Agreed, not a lot to really get too locked onto a this point. Models 50/50 right now, not surprising since the wave won't be onshore until Thursday evening.

I have been extremely let down by the supposed "big storms" this winter. Each time I hear about one I get my hopes up, and then they inevitably miss Des Moines. They all seem to keep missing us just south. I want a full-on blizzard damn it! The only "blizzard" we had this winter was barely enough to even call a blizzard. I didn't even get to miss work. Ugh.

I'm all for blizzards during typical blizzard weather months but once March hits old man winter can go **** himself.

See, I'm not sure about this - 2000, when I was still at Iowa State, the weekend preceding the week before spring break Ames got a foot of snow dumped on it. The entire following week it was 70 degrees outside. It is the only time I have ever participated in a snowball fight in shorts and t-shirts. Best snowstorm ever...
