This guy will begin his life as a Cyclone with a clean slate. While I am skeptical of him, it's up to FH. I think if he does anything stupid (hopefully not), a lot of us here will not support him.
EIU's problem was there are players do stupid things when they are members of the team.

I must have missed it. What did he do that is so bad while at ISU?

No doubt. The kid got in trouble at Minny and sat out an entire season. If you total up the number of games he missed it will probably be more games then all of the Iowa football players have missed due to suspension in the last 5 or 6 years and that covers about 35 arrests or so. The OP must have forgotten about all of that though.

we criticize the Hawks when one of theirs runs afoul and now we take this White kid?

We are no different.

Nice one.

all i can say is i wanna win. I dont really care that much what he did in the past and if we give him a 2nd chance and FH has had several conversations with him and keeps him on a leash so hes aware one screw up and hes gone then fine. sounds good to me. Iowa will let their guys screw up while at Iowa and continue to let them be there. completely different scenario here

Because we are all doomed to be the exact same person we were as a freshman in college?

This is not similar to the issues at U of I at all. For one he has done nothing wrong while at ISU and thus representing the university with his actions.

Secondly, from the cyclones.com article:
cyclones.com said:
On one of his campus visits, Royce also met with institutional staff both inside and outside of the athletics department and he left very positive impressions on everyone.

So, he apparently had to meet with people looking out for both the Cyclones (athletics) and the image of Iowa State the academic institution to discuss these very issues.

Third per the same article
Hoiberg said:
I have talked with a lot of people who are close to him, spoken with Royce in person multiple times and feel he is sincerely committed to meeting the expectations we have for our players.

Based on that I would say Coach Hoiberg is giving a guy a second chance, while leaving him on a fairly short leash.

Looking at Hoiberg's track record with discipline (Boozer, where is he again). I'm not concerned that if Mr. White blows the opportunity to get a second chance he will get a third. If he comes here and robs North Grand Mall's JCPenny and shoves a security guard there and we do NOTHING, then we are "Iowa City West".

If White gets in trouble or another student-athletes get in trouble and nothing happens, then we can be considered a frownable program. To bring in a kid with a troubled past and allow it to happen again would be a shame, but there is nothing saying this kid doesn't have some positive qualities about him.
If Freddie is smart he will stress the importance of staying within the lines while in college. Acting a fool does nothing to build relations with NBA execs. I'm sure Freddie will make sure he is focused and commited to being a positive member of the Cyclone family.
