No matter how nice they make it look on the ads, DO NOT STAY at Imperial Palace. It is fun to gamble there but the hotel portion is a dump. I would compare it to a low grade Super 8 with horribly slow elevators. If you want to stay on a budget stay at Excalibur or Luxor.

If you want to see a show. Spend the money for Cirque's " O " at the Bellagio you'll never see anything like it. (unless you go to the Wynn and see Le Reve). Plus BE careful walking through cannal street at the ventain, something about a fo feeling of being outside inside made me feel slightly sick.

O was on a break when we went down, but Le Reve was pretty sweet.

Hotels you should stay at one of these resorts in this order:
Wynn, Encore, Cosmopolitan, Mirage, Bellagio.

Kind of depends on what you are doing. Wynn has better food and better gaming. Encore has better rooms and more laid back vibe.

My list would be:
Encore, Wynn, Palazzo, Bellagio, Cosmo

If you haven't ever been to Vegas I'd bump Bellagio up on the list. It has a good middle of the strip location, lots going on inside, good gaming, and the water show. The rooms are probably the smallest and worst on that list.

You have to go to Battistas hole in the wall, it is a little Italian restaurant behind Bills and adjacent to Bally's awesome food and all you can drink wine, your choice of red or white.

Aria is the best hotel/casino on the strip IMO, great atmosphere, new, and smells amazing! If you are into "cheap" gambling Casino Royale has $3 Craps around 2 am it's way fun.

Like someone else said Vegas happens, and you should let it. Walk around see the sites, eat at the nice buffets. if you want cheap buffets you have to go to Freemont St.(old Vegas) which is a fun place, the "Freemont experience" is pretty neat. it is a giant TV which basically tunnels the blocks of Freemont and each hour they play a show.

Planet Hollywood has great table games(the pleasure pit, girls in skimpy outfits dealing cards) It is all great but don't get caught up in the glamor you forget your head and end up having to give hand jobs for a ham sandwich because you lost all your money.

:wideeyed: I thought what happened in Vegas stayed in Vegas...

If you want to stay on a budget stay at Excalibur or Luxor.

I got married at the Mandalay Bay, which is a gorgeous hotel if you want to fork over some $$$. We had one room at the MB for a "base camp", and most everybody else stayed at the adjacent Luxor/Excalibur (all three are owned by the same group). The rooms at the latter two were inexpensive, and just fine for the little time we spent in them. I've stayed a couple of times in the Luxor, and never had a problem.

I stayed at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay my last trip out to Vegas. It is an all suite hotel attached to the main Mandalay Bay hotel. The rooms were fantastic. The only issue with it was the fact that it is at the very end of the strip, so if you are planning to walk to a lot of other casinos, then the miles tally up fast.

Anybody know anything about The Orleans? That's where we're staying (also where the clinic is)...looked good on the website from what I can tell but wondered if anybody had any experience there.

It's middle of the road quality for Vegas, but way too far from the strip.

allegiant has the buy one ticket and hotel and second person flies for $16 deal going now. I don't know if the dates work or not but it's worth looking in to.
The deal is for flights to Phoenix, Florida, or Myrtle Beach. Not Vegas.

Strange. I just got the email last week. It said from Des Moines to Los Angeles or Vegas. i checked the dates and it was for May1-through the middle of August. Lincoln must have different deals?

If you are going to a show, get tickets out there the day of the show. I can't remember the name, but there are several places on the strip that you can buy reduced-price show tickets.

Twincreek Steakhouse in the Silverton may have served me the best steak I've ever tasted. I had a ribeye and the price wasn't out of line at all, under $30 and I had a couple beers. It's on Dean Martin Drive and the Bass Pro Shop is in the Hotel as well.

Along those lines, if you're looking for another good place to eat, I would recommend the Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay. It's by no means a fancy place, but the food is good, and depending on what you get, it's not that pricey. You can get something as simple as a basic hamburger with ketchup and mustard, or go all the way up to a Kobe beef burger topped with lobster, black truffles, and foie gras. (although it probably would taste awful) It's worth checking out.

orleans is a popular casino for the locals, very good clean joint. It is off the strip but nothing a taxi/shuttle cant solve.

Another nice joint off the strip is southpoint, I am staying there in august..

Orleans is good for table games and has a world renowned bowling alley upstairs... some good food and lounge acts too...
