OK I'm hooked. I drove by the guys house and got his address. I went to the Boone library and got out the county directory. The names of his neighbors to the east and west are listed but his address and the address of the park are not even in the directory. There are several addresses that state"unavailable" next to an address but his address is not even on the list. I also stopped at the chamber and the newspaper to see if anyone had ever heard of "Sun Park" but not one person had even heard of it. I drove back by the house to make sure I wasn't crazy and had to stop in the road to avoid, drumroll, a black kitten. I'm probably cursed now and will fade into oblivion. It reminds me of the movie "The Ring" as to how creepy it really is. I checked the white pages on the internet when I got home and his address doesn't exist. I even found a neighbors address and clicked the "neighbors" button on msn and all of the pthers but him showed up. God I love a good creepy story. I did this sort of thing this summer by going into Cabrini Green in Chicago before they tore it down. That is where they shot the movie "Candyman" and that place is another story to itself.

I looked on the assessor page earlier and in the 1900-1999 block of 195th st that is the only house that has a single owner.

Did someone talk about harassment earlier? Holy Crap dude. Drive by if you need to, but going to the library and the chamber? Wow.

This guy is crazy. And creepy. And so is his place. But I'd probably go a little nuts too if random people kept driving by my place and stopping to take pictures, bug me about my, uh, lawn ornaments? Anyways, let's leave this guy alone for a bit. Love the thread, just time to get it back to something different.

You guys kill me. You stop athletics recruits in airports, talk about every aspect of their lives as though you know them, shame them when they don't come to ISU and predict their success on as little information as a star rating on a web site. So I'm a stalker? I simply wrote down a guys address and tried to find his name. Nothing illegal. I didn't knock on his door and I didn't steal his mail or break into his house. It's probably a great story and I would like to see if there was some life changing event that possessed him to build such a memorial. Someone at some time has written about the memorial and I needed his name to find it. You don't build something this large near a public road if you don't want the public to know about it. I hope it eased his pain. I will do all my research online or in places that keep records. I don't plan on revisting the place unless he invites me.

you and I have very different views of harassment. To me looking up public records that are legally required to be available to the public is a far cry from harassment.

Did you try the county records? Even if the place doesn't have a street address there should be records of the ownership of the property available with the county.

Don't forget the "great" movie Whiteboyz (1999) I think this was around there too.

I understand where both of you are coming from. I just think it's time to leave this guy alone. He's obviously crazy- can we leave it at that? I'm having flashbacks from high school where we all have to pick on the kid that's a bit different from everyone else and we'll go to great lengths to do it. Again, I can see the alure of this place and agree that it's completely spooky, but let's move on.

I agree we shouldn't agitate him. I hope I haven't encouraged anyone to do that. He evidently has great emotional attachment to this structure and would probably act irrational if he felt it were threatened. Just a guess of course.

If you by the DVD Candyman they have a good bonus feature on Cabrini Green. It was a pretty creepy building.

Yeah I have the special edition DVD. Cabrini Greens has a long history and is a fascinating story. I found some website dedicated to it that has pictures and the history of the place. I probably danced with death a little more when I visited Cabrini Greens than when I drove by the Sun Park Memorial.

I dont know if thats true, but it did happen alot. I think the years I was there some kid jumped out a window after losing at monopoly or something, hit his head on the dumpster below and died.

We were there the same time... I thought a student from another country jumped out the window, but don't remember the reason. But, yes, that was in Friley. He landed right on top of the dumpster, if I remember....

Also, looking at public records is not harassment. Driving by once is not harassment. Multiple drive byes, trespassing, etc is not right, but driving down a public street or gravel road is completely legal.

Let's not start throwing words in that are not accurate. You might not think it is "right" but it is legal.

That being said, I wonder how many of the people actually drove by or etc. Other than the people who posted pics, a lot of people "improve" the truth, if you know what I mean.

Link for website? I would like to read some info....

Also, if anyone has a link to buy the ISU book that Flag is talking about, I'd appreciate it. I would like to purchase one.

I did once...and it wouldn't be soo creepy but the light in his front yard with the old junk car and everything being so dimly lit makes for a creepy looking scene. The house all dark...being able to see basically an outline of the "shrine"...not a situation I'm accustomed to. If that is truly a memorial to his daughters, I applaud him honestly. Looks complicated as heck and if it's stood Iowa's crappy weather for years and years, props to the guy for doing something he believed in.
