When did we last wear the matte cardinal helmets? Are those still in our arsenal?
I've heard of teams selling or donating equipment to smaller schools. (Several years ago U of I offered to donate equipment to Kirkwood so they could start a football program but they decided against it.) I've also heard you can lease helmets now and send them back each year for refurbishment and you might not get the same batch back that you sent in.

Actually, since 2013 the NFL has had a rule stating that each player is to wear the same helmet for every game of the season. That's why the Bucs stopped wearing the creamsicle throwbacks.

Really a dumb rule IMO. As long as the helmet fits properly, who gives a crap if a player wears the same helmet all season or different helmets?

Par for the course, really - the NFL likes to focus on all of the wrong things in the name of player safety.

Just to clarify, they have to wear the same helmet design, not one single helmet. They can replace them as long as they are the same design. Just another dumb NFL rule.

Are you sure about that? If that were true, teams could replace everyone's helmet with the same design but a different color for alt uniforms. No team has featured more than one colored helmet a season since the NFL put the rule in place.

Yeah design means color, logos etc. As helmets get used they can't require them to use the same one over and over if there is damage or fitment issues or any other issues. I believe this is just about their helmets looking the same all year, not allowing them to change looks. Yet I may be wrong, the NFL is completely stupid, one of the reasons I quit watching it this year. Also I don't know how they would enforce it if it was about wearing the exact same helmet? If it looks identical for the most part I don't know how they would monitor it being the same one. It would have to be a self reporting type thing.

No. The NFL believes that changing helmet shells during the season may leave players more susceptible to head injuries.

I stand corrected. See another stupid NFL rule. I thought I originally read it was about changing looks. But I do remember something like this now that I read that. I suppose it doesn't apply if a helmet gets damaged etc. that is how they make it work.

I've never seen the league post any stats to back up their claim. Seems like it would be easy to do by comparing head injuries suffered in a season by Oregon against a team with only one helmet they wear all year.

I believe the NFL certifies the helmets at the beginning of the season and possibly chip them to keep compliance. Dumbest thing ever

Gawd.... I hope not. The cardinal matte helmets were AWFUL. Hope we never see them again.

I distinctly remember you saying same thing after that game. Not sure why I remember that detail. Maybe you mentioned it another time since then ... I tend to peruse most CF uniform threads, so some things stick.

My opinion was the matte helmet didn't look as bad as I expected, but I doubt I'd rally to have them reintroduced.

All red uniforms with yellow helmets. I like ASU's below

Why the devil is that mascot poking the mannequin with a pitchfork? He must not like the uniform design.

I had heard that Campbell dumped those as soon as he took over. Possibly auctioned some off or donated them? But I thought I remember someone from CF tweeting about that last season.
