You guys are probably stuck with both mediocre players, so why fight about it?:cute:

Mediocre or not, Hardy hitting somewhere in the 7-9 region makes the Twins a better team than the never ending Punto and other AAA experiments in the infield.

Tarheelhawk-Don't know why Al Gore got on this thread but since he did I thought you might want to know that Al didn't invent the internet. He did incorporate it into many departments of the federal government, saving tons of money and helping produce budget surpluses as opposed to adding a couple of trillion to the national debt like the clowns that followed him.

Well, hopefully you guys are arguing about utility infielders on a third place team by tomorrow night. :)

You simply cannot sell your argument on this, you'll see Hardy in the lineup at short from here on out if he's healthy.
Sell this...

Punto had 25 hits in the month of June. He had 21 in April and May combined. 7 of his 18 RBIs came in June, and he's batting .317 over the last month.

Would be completely out of character for the Twins to give up that much for a guy that is gone at season's end.

You do realize that since the Twins moved out of the Metrodome and into Target Field they actually have money to spend, right? I mean, it's not as if the Twins don't have the ability to go over $100 million in payroll nowadays. They may not be able to sign him for next season and beyond, but I don't think they'd be making a play for him if they had zero chance.

Tigers and Sox will come down to earth eventually while the Twins will hopefully put things back together.

FYI. Strength of schedule so far:

Twins 9th
Tigers 20th
Sox 25th.

If you know the MLB, there are only 30 teams.

Gotta love how the White Sox fans started thinking their **** didn't stink after sweeping the Pirates, Nationals, and Cubs twice...

Outside of Hardy's 2 breakout seasons, he's a .236 career batter. Punto is a .249 career hitter. And have you been watching how Target Field plays? It's not a home run park. Outside of Morneau, EVERYONE'S home run numbers are down. Outside of Delmon Young's numbers being up, but still 6 of his 9 HRs this season have been on the road. So you're not going to see Hardy revert back to his 25 HR form anytime soon. Therefore, I want the guy with the better batting average playing in Target Field. And between Hardy and Punto, that's Punto.

And I have not seen Hardy make as many spectacular defensive plays as Punto has.

Nice cherry picking, you realize you take out Punto's two best seasons and your left with a .229 career hitter. Punto as a hitter sucks(low average low power, higher obp), moreso than Hardy(low average, decent power, less strikeouts). Its been unsurprising that Hardy has struggled as a hitter as he has been playing with a wrist injury since the beginning of May. Hardy is also under team control for an additional year after this one whereas Punto is a free agent.

Without Lee, I still take the Sox rotation over the Twins. That being said, I really don't see us winning this division either way without picking up a DH. The guy that should be at DH is in Minneapolis.

Seeing where the Twins are in strength of schedule compared to the other teams in the division makes me feel a whole lot better that they're not running away with this division right now.

You can only beat the teams that are scheduled. You left out the sweep of the Braves and two of three at Texas.

That being said, if you think the Tigers and Sox are going down without a fight, or if we think the Twins or Tigers are, you'd have to be jaded.

Of course you would - your rotation has dominated one of the weakest schedules played to date. I'll take the Twins rotation that have "struggled" against one of the strongest...

And you do realize that the Twins' schedule gets a hell of a lot easier in the second half while the Sox's schedule gets a hell of a lot harder, right? By the way, the Braves might be in first place, but sweeping them doesn't impress me a whole lot.

3 games left against NY
7 against Boston
0 against TB
0 against Tor
7 against Baltimore

13 against Min
14 against Det
9 against KC
6 against Cle

0 against Tex
6 against LA
7 against Sea
9 against Oak

They'll earn it in the Central, but aside from 10 games against the leaders of the East, it's not like they're running into a buzzsaw from here on out.

It should be a good race into the final months, and I don't really think you can say any one of the three teams is a stone cold lock to win the division.
