Would be completely out of character for the Twins to give up that much for a guy that is gone at season's end.

Lee will be a Type A free agent so the team that he finishes the year with will get two 1st round draft picks if he signs with another team.

it was completely out of character for the twins to pay one player as much as they did mauer also. hopefully they go out and get him since pretty much everyone but pavano and blackburn are slumping right now. he would give us that ace that we need to help make our playoff run since the white sox bats have started heating up and the tigers are still hanging around as well

Please let Punto be part of the deal...
And give up his defensive ability? Punto can't swing a bat for the life of him, but he plays stellar defense.

Send J.J. Hardy and his .219 average to Seattle. Why Punto (batting .253) was benched in favor of Hardy when J.J. came of the DL baffles me.

I really think the Mariners need to wait a tad longer on this unless they get a great offer. They are 14 out right now and I don't see them making a run, but weirder things have happened. Their offense seems to have picked up lately. I just think they should wait until the All Star break before they get rid of a guy like Lee.

You think they'd want Sano and Ramos in a deal from the Twins too.

Give me a break, I hope you're joking. Go ahead and look at career numbers for both. You don't lose anything with Hardy in the field and gain a ton of potential with his bat over Punto. I'd take a guy who hit 25+ home runs 2 out of the last 3 seasons (hit 11 in an off year) over a guy who has 12 CAREER home runs.

Outside of Hardy's 2 breakout seasons, he's a .236 career batter. Punto is a .249 career hitter. And have you been watching how Target Field plays? It's not a home run park. Outside of Morneau, EVERYONE'S home run numbers are down. Outside of Delmon Young's numbers being up, but still 6 of his 9 HRs this season have been on the road. So you're not going to see Hardy revert back to his 25 HR form anytime soon. Therefore, I want the guy with the better batting average playing in Target Field. And between Hardy and Punto, that's Punto.

And I have not seen Hardy make as many spectacular defensive plays as Punto has.

Twins can absolutely win the World Series if they can make this deal. You gotta do it.

First. 2 breakout seasons? His career is a whopping 4 years old.

Fact is that JJ Hardy given the chance will produce more than Punto and provide similar defensive abilities. In a mere 39 games, he has 13 RBI (while hitting .219 in a slump) compared to Punto's 18 in the entire season. Are you going to throw out Punto's 2 outlier seasons to lower his career average too? Without his 2 seasons above .280 Punto is a career .220 hitter over 9 year.

You simply cannot sell your argument on this, you'll see Hardy in the lineup at short from here on out if he's healthy.

You guys are probably stuck with both mediocre players, so why fight about it?:cute:
