Attendance taking a dive, are you kidding me? We haven't been out of the top four in NCAA attendance rankings in the time frame you listed.
2010-11 - 4th, 11-12 - 3rd, 12-13 - 2nd, 13-14 - 2nd, 14-15 - 4th, 15-16 - 3rd, 16-17 - 3rd. We are the top Big 12 team.

You are referencing "announced" attendance as opposed to actual attendance. We have had quite a number of conversations around this. While announced is "in the ballpark" for MBB, it is a sham for WBB.

It is true that most all programs now use "announced" numbers, and it appears most programs have a substantially similar formula.

Actual attendance is rarely above 1/3 of the announced numbers, and no where near what it was during the Welle, Frese, Taylor years.

As part of the antiques here, my first WBB game (a girl took me) was in 1982 when we beat Iowa at Hilton. Being an impressionable kid, my meeting Pam Wettig was a highlight (at a social thing - I later learned her sister was TV star Patricia). A little recalled fact: Wettig became the Big 8 Coach of the year. I attended no more games until the start of Fennelly's run.
Yeah, nobody else did either.

In the sweep of Iowa State WBB history it is always pointed out that we had nothing before Fennelly came. That being the case any good coach would have had a positive influence and Bill had great success. Changes came and we are now back to not much more than we were pre-Bill (except now we have a legacy).

I think people forget the depth of despair that was ISU WBB prior to Bill. From 1980 until Bill arrived in 1995 the program went 149-264. That is a .360 winning percentage. To put that in perspective Bill has never had a single season at ISU that was that bad. Bill's worst season was two years ago when they went 13-17 (.433). That was the first losing season since 02-03 and only his second overall. Before Bill came Becker won 5 conference games in 3 seasons. That is the same tally as Bill's worst conference season.

No, we aren't anywhere near as bad as we were before Bill.

These numbers come straight from the NCAA website, do you have another source?

You may have missed a couple transfers for instance I know Darcie D. should be counted for 2010. She moved to SW Okie St. where she was new-comer of the year 2011-12 and 1st team ALL-GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL.

Though it is hard to have nothing more than an opinion, I think Fernstrom was a loss. She set several Freshman records. But otherwise your point is solid.
I used the online rosters at Cyclones.com and Darcie **** is not listed for 2010-2011. She was an average role player at best at ISU.

Was that her or someone else whose parents thought she should start every game? I recall reading something about it in the forum.

It was her - we went to the USVI in 2010 when they played in the Thanksgiving tourney there and her dad thought she was better than Chassidy Cole and Lauren Mansfield.

Yes. It's comparing going to games 15-18 years ago where there WERE actually 10,000 people in attendance at each home game versus what we see with our own eyes now and box scores still claiming 10,000 per game. The official numbers might be the same, but the fans in the stands are not even remotely close.

I'm not saying the numbers are accurate, but those are the numbers reported to the NCAA. If you have a better source with the actual attendance (not the eye test), then please share it with the rest of us.

Yeah, they reported 6-700 average attendance for the Becker years and I'm doubtful they even had a couple of games that reached those numbers. I'm certain that Iowa State WBB is the only program in all of Div 1 sports that inflates attendance numbers.

I am not anti-Bil I am pro-results. We are less than average now, but better than the bad of the past. I agree.

I really appreciate everything that Bill has done for the program. He put together some very good, fun to watch teams, but there is just something wrong when every year key players, starters, transfer out of the program.

There is no other source. I'm not even sure why you're asking for one when you have many people here who have gone to games for 20 years and can tell you with ABSOLUTE certainty that the numbers they currently report are not remotely accurate. The eye test is all you need, quite honestly.

And your point is? I have attended all but maybe 2 home games in the last 20 years and I know that the numbers quoted and who are there in the seats don' match. It has been stated that they use season tickets sold to get the numbers. I have seats around me that are season ticket people ho make maybe 60% of the games. This method of attendance is used by most schools as I have attended away games and watched games and what you see and what is reported don' match, you know "the eye test". I do know we do get more people then many other schools.

Not going deeply into this because I already did in another thread. If you look at the total list, there are a lot of recruiting mistakes on the list . Whoever decided to recruit Sofia obviously never watched her play.

Agree, recruiting too few B12 quality players in the first place has recently been a far bigger issue than those who transferred out. And this issue dates back to the departure of Robin Pingeton. Bill has never adequately replaced her and if the program wants to get better, Bill needs to hire someone like Robin, Brenda F and Katie A who isn't a family member or a former player. Bill isn't going to get fired or retire anytime soon but this type of staff change is long overdue.

Help me with who Pingeton brought in - I do know she was here during the only prior losing season and they were an WNIT team at best the years after she left.

Since every school uses the same logic for attendence, it doesn't really matter.

And I bet the people whose seats are around ours think we never show up as we end up sitting in jr cyclone club with our kids because we almost always let our kids bring 2 or more friends. Luckily the kids are almost old enough now they will be able to sit by themselves next year probably.

I'm responding to the quoted post. I made my point. What's yours? Sounds like little more than rehash of what's already been said.

I made my point it was a rehash of your rehash, Attendance figures are NOT correct, schools/programs use figures that make them look good.
