Ankeny Summerfest going on this weekend and I just heard about Dumont's sandbaggin days and the Byron, IL turkey testicle festival. What are some other town celebration names and anything they are known for. My college buddies and I like to get together and hit up a few new ones every year.

Fort Dodge Frontier Days. Haven't been there for a while and probably with good reason.

In Highmore, SD, we have Old Settler Days.

Is Ames still doing the festival for the stinky trees on main street? Can't remember what kind of trees, it was named after them.

Muscatine used to have Great River Days. I don't know if they still do or not. That's where Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits swallowed a bug in mid-song.

Burlington has Steamboat Days.

Mt. Pleasant, of course, has the Old Thresher's Reunion the 5 days up to, and including, Labor Day. But's it's really pretty much over by Monday.

Manson has Greater Crater Days. Named after the giant crater the town is in

I was on the SW side at Kirkwood for two years but I stayed in town and worked during the summer instead of going home so I'm surprised I never heard of it.

I work with a few KCC students (from eastern IA small towns) who live in the apt complexes near Kirkwood, and are pretty clueless about anything beyond a mile from school.

Sweet Corn Fest is a pretty big deal in CR. However, up here it's the My Waterloo Days and it's awesome. Kind of a lame name, but then again, the city is named after being built around a river.

If you go with my waterloo days you can through in Strugis Falls or whatever the name of the celebration is.

St. Judes Sweet Corn Festival was always a highlight of the end of the summer, nothing like eating burgers, sweet corn and pie on a nice night.
