I know some members from other chapters and am thinking about joining up. Anyone here a current or former teke?

Fall of 2004, at a different school. At the time I transfered schools after just a semester (to ISU ), and left the Teke stuff behind. Looking back, it was possibly the best semester of my life. Definitely a good time and worth everything.

I'm just gonna sit back and watch. I personally have no interest in Greek life (and never have) but I don't have anything against those who do join.

But I do hate the "paying for friends" argument. Did you not pay (usually more) to live in the dorms and meet people? That's a 2-way street IMO.

And with that...no more from me. I'll just go grab my popcorn.

.

i didn't choose to live in the dorms because i thought it was a way to make friends, i choose to live in the dorms my first year because i was 18 and didn't know any better. i honestly don't remember more than maybe 5 people i met in my dorm, so no i wouldn't say i was living there making friends. i met way more people just going out and getting ****faced on weekends, and the people i did that with are the ones i still get together with when i go back to ames.

I'm the same way. I met my friends by going to parties and doing really, really stupid ****. The dorms suck.

Had a couple friends walking by that house back in 2003 and got jumped by a bunch of them...

Put me in the anti-frat house group...

You get out of the residence halls what you put into them. I'm in my fourth year in the residence halls and considering a fifth. Show me a person who didn't have a good time in the residence halls, and I will show you a person who went out of their way to not take advantage of everything they offer.

well i sort of agree here.. I had a blast in the residence halls. that being said, i would not live there more than a year because i would be paying more to live in a place that is usually covered in human excrement. that, and i got absolutley nothing accomplished there with all of my closest friends in and out of my room constantly.

Definitely not a frat fan. Met some of my best friends in Larch Hall (or because of it). Of course, we became friends by going out and getting **** faced every weekend. Seems to me that that's a great bonding experience. Nothing like having to carry someone 1 mile, after they puked on a stranger to cement a friendship

I would say when TKE was started back up a few year back, the guys were not drinkers either, but I dont know now. The Lutheran fraternity is not a party house, you could try that one.

I HATED the dorms, I made it 1 semester and moved out. The rooms were crappy, too many people on my floor I hated, RA's that were on ego trips ALL the time, and the food was horrible. I will take an frat/apartment anyday. Cheaper as well.

Wow, you are old- no offense. We've had CAs for well over a decade, and the food is awesome now. Sorry to hear that was your experience back then.

I graduated in 2006, I was in the dorms in 2002 (Larch). We still called them RA's and the food was still ******. But to each there own, I just didnt enjoy my time. (see it sounds like jail with that sentence)

I was a TKE at Iowa State when it was still a wet house. Best time of my life wouldn't have traded it for anything. The people that are anti frat never tried it. I would go for it, when I joined I automatically had 80 friends and they are the same people I stay in touch with now, not sure you could say that in the dorms or apartments. I have nothing against dorm life I'm sure its great to its just not what I chose. Some great ISU alumni were TKEs and they are very big donors in ISU athletics.

never understood paying money to make/meet new friends, but hey, that's just me.

Not sure I understand this... You pay the same money to live in the dorms.... Just a little more structure in a frat house... Where's Flander I know he had a good time in his frat house....
