I can see maybe putting Wigginton in the starting lineup but who do you bench and will they step up and be the scoring punch off the bench that LW has provided?
Imo, a scoring punch off the bench is very overrated. How many teams across the country structure their lineup so one of their top scorers comes off the bench?
I would want the first guy off the bench to be someone that has a defined role. Great defender, physical post presence, spot up shooter, mismatch specialist, etc. Then every other starter can adjust their role accordingly.
Past Iowa St teams (used because we're all familiar):
16-17 Donovan Jackson- spot up shooter. Usually switched to a small lineup when he came in
15-16 Deonte Burton- Mismatch. Again, went small ball when he came in.
14-15 BDJ & McKay. Not great examples because they split their time starting and coming off the bench. And neither had a real definable skill that season.
13-14 Thomas and Naz. Spot up shooters.
12-13 & 11-12 McGee. Obvious, spot up shooter
