Congrats to him. Such a departure, personality-wise, from what we typically think of when it comes to star players. Great player.

I'm a big Spurs and Duncan fan (well sorta, haven't watched much NBA outside of the playoffs in a long time).

Sad to see him go, great player with a great attitude, always loyal and a team player.

I have an autographed Spurs pennant from Duncan's rookie year signed by both Duncan and Robinson. Can't believe it's been 19 years (I was 12).

During his career, the Spurs worst regular season was 50 wins. Crazy.

Most underrated superstar maybe all time? Really glad I watched the fourth quarter of the OKC close out game this year where Pop put Duncan and Ginobili in to give it one more shot and while they didn't win, Duncan led a run and nearly got the Spurs back into the game. As great of a coach as Pop is, every thing is easier when you have a superstar who not only consistently produces on both ends but also takes less money over and over to allow the Spurs to sign other guys.

The Spurs released a small tribute video with an instrumental version of thanks for the memories.

Nothing fits his career more than a song that is probably more than 60 years old. :)

19 seasons with one team, I wonder how often that has happened and if it'll ever happen again. Great career for a great player and person.

I never liked the Spurs, but always respected Duncan. Also fitting that he could have announced that he was retiring after next year and done the whole Kobe thing, playing here and there and collecting gifts from each franchise. Pretty cool he just decided to hang it up and move on without any fanfare.

Way up there
The best player of his generation and the perfect example of how a professional athlete should handle themselves, we are lucky to have seen him play.

I think it was someone from CBS tweeted a pick of Duncan, Ginobli and Parker in the Three Amigos gif. Surprisingly, no one has gotten upset at this point.

That part is debatable. I happen to agree with you but you could make a very good argument for Kobe as the best of that generation. You could even make a case for KG or maybe Shaq.

I think he also had the best career of anyone in that group. If the whole point of playing is to win, then nobody else in the post-MJ era did it with more consistency.
