Thoughts about next year?

Bubu is not that bad of a n outsider shooter. Last year, he was 5/11 (45.5%) from 3 pt. range. I think his progress offensively was hurt by the suspension.

But, he does need to get under control more. I see him as coming off the bench by the end of next year.

I agree, I like the fact that we have him, I think he is a better shooter than we give him credit for but he had so many more options that I would have rathered he passed it to them for a 3-ball.

More optimistic about next season now than before. Likely a slow start again, but CFH and staff's teams just get better as the season goes on. This year's team played close to the ceiling of their talent level. We have higher rated players coming in. Just need 1 of the jucos to be good enough to make the rotation.

Others are noticing CFH too

Year after.

Ah. I guess the one question then is who do we have at point next year?
Niang and Ejim anchor the blocks,
We have the freshman Thomas and Morris at SG, and PG, but will they be good enough to start?
Would we start Naz Long, Dorsey Walker or Okoro at the SG and SF position?
We then have the J.C's of Amardie (PF), Edozie (PF), Hogue (SF), and maybe Bluford (SG).

This is my "guess" for a starting 5 next year

Niang
Ejim
Naz Long
Okoro
Monte Morris

All a guess. What is everyone else's proposed starting 5?

I'll say we are a NIT team next year. At the beginning of the year, I don't think we will be very good, but by the end of the year we could be dangerous. The Big 12 is going to be very down next year. Kansas loses 5 starters, KSU & Oklahoma lose their best player. Baylor is Baylor. TTU and TCU will both be bad. Texas should be improved if Kabongo stays. OSU will be interesting to see who leaves. Even though we won't be as good as the year before, the same could be said for every other team.

That's a pretty small sample, but I agree with your point that we shouldn't write him off as a potential outside shooter. Few would have thought Ejim would be a thread from beyond the arc after this year, but obviously he turned into one.

There've been quite a few threads predicting next year's starters, but I honestly have no idea outside of Ejim and Niang. That's one of the exciting things about next year to me; it'll be wide open.

With Hogue, Thomas and Bubu all getting significant time off the bench.

I will say this, practicing against Babb, Luscious, and Clyburn will have helped Naz Long, Dorsey Walker, and Okoro grow as players. I will be very hopeful for next year.

Didn't we lose a ****-ton of "irreplaceable" talent last year, making this year a "rebuilding" year?

I'm beginning to like Fred Hoiberg's "rebuilding" years.

Last year we (ISU fans) knew we had experienced and talented transfers redshirting that would be replacing what we lost- both adding qualities (PG and SF) that would make this team a more complete team than last year.

We attempted to do the same last spring and summer but missed out on a few transfers, thus this time we will be counting on non-blue chip true freshmen and average JuCo's to fill the voids. Big difference. The past two years we not only had some of the best talent/mismatches in the conference but also experience. Our roster of 2010-11 may have been better equipped to win than next year's..and our schedule is a lot tougher. I have my doubts whether the open, fun-loving style will work next year. Imo we need to be a more risk-averse, grind it out type of team.

One things for sure - we won't know next years team until August.

Sure, we have all these players signed, but one or two players will transfer and we will be gaining players either as graduated seniors (Jake Anderson) or another Frosh.

Also, don't think Bluford will be here.

I bet those guys have helped the young guys immensely both physically and mentally. Rarely do you see a "team" like this squad had. I bet they continue to support and keep in touch with the young guys next season too.

Gotta love the posters that come on here only after an ugly ISU loss or heartbreaking ISU loss to try to stir people up. I'm not sure which my favorite Hugs4ISU thread is...

1. The one he started after ISU got swept in Las Vegas earlier in the year when he stated that Creighton must be able to whip us because they won the tournament even though they were playing in an entirely different tournament

or

2. The one he started during the Texas game the season before last when we got blown out talking about Rhoads and ISU always sucking in big games.

Well his hero Chewie will be on the receiving end of a lot of beatings next year whether he makes Dougie come back or not

Wow, what is wrong with you people? Attacking the guy for looking to next season instead of complaining for the next three months about a call?

I see Niang and Ejim as the top returning front court players in the conference. Throw in some Juco bigs and a bunch of good to great shooters, I see NIT as worse case scenario?
