Here are a couple photos I took of Meier and Austin's celebration down the stretch of the 1600. I've got some photos of Pollard from the 3200, but I haven't gotten to editing my stuff from the first couple days of the meet yet.

So he didn't really break the 40 year record. Even if they were to convert. Not even Usain Bolt can cover 19 meters in under 2 seconds. So at his pace you would add 3.16 seconds on to his time. Giving him a 2 mile time of 8:53.59.

Um yeah he can......

True, but the general point stands. No high school distance runner is covering 19 meters in 2 seconds. They aren't sprinting, and even if they were, they still might not be able to do it.

No it doesn't. How do you know he wouldn't have gotten those 19 meters in 2 seconds? How do you know he wouldn't have ran the end just a bit faster if he knew he could get, allowing him to get those 19 meters in, say, 3 seconds. These aren't your regular high school kids.

Usain Bolt runs the 100 meters in 9.58 seconds. That's just over 10 meters per second. No high schooler can match that, much less a high school distance runner.

These guys aren't typical, but they aren't going to suddenly become Bolt-like in the last 20 meters of a 1600- or 3200-meter race. Maybe they'd get it in three seconds, but when you're talking about a distance of 19 meters, one full second is an eternity.

Pollard could very well shave off a few more seconds by the end of next season; in a race that long, you can spread it out over the course of the race. But the race he ran yesterday would not have broken the record. He doesn't cover an extra 19 meters in 2 seconds. He would have had to run even harder than he did. He absolutely would be capable of that if that was asked of him, but his race yesterday wasn't hard enough.

The first 10 meters consume probably 15% of the time. In the middle of the race Bolt goes like .8 over 10 meters.

That's true. But in a distance race, there isn't nearly as much of a difference between the start and the finish. Pollard covered roughly 6 meters per second (roughly 13 mph). At Bolt's top speed (between the 60th and 80th meters) he was running at about 27.4 mph. That's a HUGE difference.

Like I said, Pollard can absolutely break that record (through conversion, anyway). But the race he ran this week wouldn't have gotten it done. He would have had to run even harder over the course of the race, because there's no way he could have sped up to Bolt-like speed at the very end. Nobody in the world could do that.

You guys aren't getting it. He already was kicking it in the last 19 meters. If they added 19 MORE meters to the race it's not like he's going to kick an extra 19 meters over what he already was sprinting. You're basically just adding 19 meters worth of pace from the middle of the race to the end time. My dad and I had many discussions about this comparing our mile times back when I was in HS

And he ran 15:04 at state cross country. That's an incredible time

The 2nd place kid came in at 16:09. That's unbelievable.

Pollard runs in 3A, but would have also won the 4A race by 20 secs as well.

Where is he going to college?

As far as I've seen, he hasn't decided yet. Obviously ISU is in the mix, but from twitter I've seen him take visits to Oregon and Stanford. I'm sure he is being recruited lots of places.

Oregon would be hard to pass up. They get crowds for track and even cross country. No one here cares about track.

Except the AD. So we got that going for us. :)

It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Of course Oregon would be hard to pass up, but the draw of family close may come into play with his personality.

FYI - that was the third fastest time in history behind Jason Thomas (ISU redshirt) and Ben Anderson (Iowa redshirt) and just ahead of Austin Chandler (Okie State).
