I would guess they give him just one more year to right things back 8/9 seedish level.

It's been one anticlimactic, lots of flailing around kind of ride though.

Not exactly sure.
His brother played football at Iowa, and the rumor is the entire family grew up EIU fans. The 3 brothers own 10/12 grocery stores in Iowa under the name of Brothers Market. Most of the stores are located in smaller county seat towns like Bloomfield and Sigourney. His buyout at WV is one third of his the remaining contract. Currently making $2.8 million a year.

They bought out Kramer Ace Hardware in North Iowa. 3-4 hardware stores in Clear lake and surrounding towns.

Testifying
We all can agree Creighton is a better job than Iowa. The issue is Fran is 5 1/2 years older than Greg.

Is there smoke with Greg wanting to hang it up or something? He and Creighton are still performing while Fran and Iowa aren't.

I would think that buying grocery and hardware stores in smaller county seat towns is a good investment for the future. The one they purchased in Bloomfield is always busy, they have higher prices than Hy Vee, but its local and most people are not going to make the drive to Ottumwa just for groceries unless they are purchasing for the week. Not much competition to go up against in the smaller county seat towns.

The State of Hockey
The names I’ve seen thrown out from Hawks are:

Devries (WVU)
Jans (Mississippi St)
Forbes (wake forest)

I struggle to find a good reason why Jans or Devries would leave for Iowa. Both of those schools seem to be in better conferences and situations. Whomever takes over Iowa will have to do a total rebuild.

Forbes could be possible in the sense that Wake Forest might not fight for him to stay on the account of him never getting to the tournament in 5 years. That might not be an exciting hire for Iowa though.

Devries is in a perfect spot - his AD will do a Tang-contract and panic and extend him after one season (Javon Samll = Marquise Nowell?). (Yes I think Devries is a better coach, but its one year, with a stud pg, which helps massively). Even without a new contract he has a big buyout already at WVU.

He might get $4m/yr through 2032 at this point, and good luck Iowa stepping up to match/exceed that.

I would think he would rather take over the Creighton job from Mac than the EIU job. At Creighton you have more NIL, and do not have to share the limelight with WBB and football like you would at EIU. Creighton is the better program and he coached there a number of years. McDermott is only 60 and currently makes $2.1 million a year, EIU will be able to double that figure.

Are you sure that's all Greg makes?

Now that the Hok women BB team has come back down to earth, is their attendance starting to decline as well?

There is a piece of me that would rather have Devries at Iowa than WVU.
I think DeVries is a good coach, over his years at Creighton as they jumped from MVC to the Big East he's had time evaluating high major talent. I think he will do well at WVU and want the Big XII to have as many good coaches and programs as possible.

That seems extremely low for him. I am betting it's around 5 million a year. He didn't leave Iowa State for less money and he was making more here. It's also a private school so they don' thave to report the numbers I believe.
I think it's pretty likely he left Iowa State for less money. Creighton was still in the Missouri Valley when Greg got a lifeline before getting canned

Greg will be done soon.
