Wow, this was a great movie. I just finished watching it for the first time. People can bag on DiCaprio all they want, he was great in this movie. The whole cast was outstanding. I recommend this to anyone who likes movies with intrigue, mafia and great acting.

Lay off man.

I am a father of two with not a lot of time to watch movies. I watch what I can when I can.

Great flick, I recommend it to those that appreciate great work.

If you want to check out some other DiCaprio stuff, Blood Diamond is from the same year I'd argue a slightly stronger performance from him. Subject matter is more interesting to me in Blood Diamond but both are very good flicks.

Best movie of the 90s IMO. DiCaprio is a great actor. How he didn't win an Oscar for What's Eating Gilbert Grape I'll never know.

Are you referring to "The Departed" as a 90's movie? If so, it came out after '05. If you are referring to "Gilbert Grape", it is a great acting job, but not the best movie of the 90's.

I've only seen bits and pieces. I have fatherhood syndrome as a previous poster noted.

I"m not a big Martin Scorcese fan.

I hated Blood Diamond, I can only listen to Djimon Hansou scream about his son for 20 minutes or so, and the first half of the movie or so was terrible. I did like the ending though.

The Departed is great, and I cannot believe Matt Damon wasn't nominated for an oscar for his performance in it. Great performances out of everyone and Alec Baldwin steals the show in his scenes. A buddy of mine and I bust out "Oh it's working alright.... overtime!" "I'm glad to hear it" quotes quite a bit.

Probably one of the better twist style drama's I've seen since Mystic River.

Both great movies. I much prefer Mystic River though. The Departed borders on a bit too 'cloak-and-dagger' at times. Mystic is so much grittier and seems more authentic. Penn's performance is as good as it gets.

The Departed (2006)

the movie is somewhat based on Boston Mobster Whitie Bulger. The thing is, I don't think he ever got caught. He had a brother in the FBI so Buldger had him go after his Italian rivals instead.

Agree with you 100% on all counts. I just got my first blu-ray player and this will be one of the first ones I buy.

I hope you got a chance to see Avatar at the movie theater in 3D. If not you missed out.

Since you liked Departed and you are catching up on old movies here are some good ones you should check out. These will keep you on edge.
Shooter (with Mark Walburg)
The Kingdom (Jaime Fox)

I though Slum Dog Millionaire was very good movie also.

:biglaugh: Great call on the Gaffigan clip

As for The Departed, love that f---ing movie!

My favorite characters are easily Sgt. Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) and Captain Ellerby (Alec Baldwin)

---

Ellerby: Go **** yourself.
Dignam: I'm tired from ****ing your wife.
Ellerby: How is your mother?
Dignam: Good, she's tired from ****ing my father.

---

Ellerby: You have an immaculate record. Some guys don't trust an immaculate record. I do. I have an immaculate record.

---

Ellerby: Queenan is dead. I'm your boss now.
Dignam: I don't give a ****, I'd rather hand in my papers first.
Ellerby: World needs plenty of bartenders - two weeks, with pay!

---

Dignam: My theory on Feds is that they're like mushrooms, feed 'em **** keep them in dark.

---

Ellerby: Marriage is an important part of getting ahead: lets people know you're not a homo; married guy seems more stable; people see the ring, they think at least somebody can stand the son of a *****; ladies see the ring, they know immediately you must have some cash or your **** must work.
