The surf is a nice place to see a show. Its history is always kindof a cool add on to going there.

For what it's worth, my dad's band played the night after at the Surf. The owner took him to see the plane wreckage which was still there and was very distraught to say the least. Dad's band played for about 30 minutes, only about 20 people came out the next night, and they went home. He lived a piece of history.

That's pretty cool story; was your dad in a rock band, or was it some other type? '58 was still pretty early rock-n-roll, it would have been cool to hear some of the early rock local bands.

Buddy was so innovative with music that he truly inveted new approaches. He had a very clean sound like the beatles.

An interesting piece of history, to say the least. Sadly, it's about the only thing that Northern Iowa is known for...That and the Cardiff Giant.

No unannounced talent showed up last night, although there were lots of rumours going around (McCartney, Springsteen, Elton John, ...)
