I saw Batman Begins again the other night and it was better than I remembered. I think the Dark Knight is generally considered by most to be the best in that series, and Heath Ledger's Joker is a big reason for that, but I think the origin story of the first movie was pretty well done. The genre has evolved quite a bit from the way it was in the 70's when Superman first came to the big screen, and there's been plenty of bad ones (Edward Norton's Hulk for example) along the way too.

What has been the best of the super hero/comic book action genre?

For some reason, I don't consider Guardians to be a comic book movie probably because it doesn't have super heroes. But it was really well done (and would probably be near the top of my list). If I were to rank my top ones, it would go:

1. Iron Man 1
2. The Dark Knight
3. Suicide Squad
4. Batman 1989
5. Captain America Winter Soldier
6. Avengers
7. Thor 1
8. Superman 2 (Reeves)
9. X-Men
10. Ant Man

Of the choices, The Dark Knight. I do think The Dark Knight Rises is better though. Just not on the list.

Yeah, limited number of choices, and I wanted some variety, but I figured I'd get straightened out in the comments. IMO, Dark Knight trilogy is the most solid series of films in the genre overall, and Superman has been the worst. Now that studios are on to second tier hero movies, I wonder if interest will wane.

I love the first Richard Donner Superman movie. That is probably the "perfect" superhero movie. It has the origin story, a great cast, doesn't take itself too seriously (something the current DC films don't understand), best original music (Danny Elfman's Batman theme is a close #2), and great special effects (for the time it was made). Without the success of that movie, we probably wouldnt have the Batman, MCU or DCEU movies.

Guardians (and Thor) is essential to where Avengers is going, in part because they don't have Silver Surfer...but even as a Silver Surfer fan GotG translates better to the screen. Basically there's a whole bunch of heroes and plots in space the Avengers and X-Men movies hadn't touched on and the biggest comic book crossover in Marvel comics history they're building up to takes place in space.

I've enjoyed a lot of superhero movies, but is anyone else like me in that they are coming out with FAR too many nowadays?

It seems like half the movies coming out now are superhero movies. How many different Spiderman movies alone have there been now? I can't keep them all straight.

I actually think Batman begins was the best overall movie in that trilogy. Ledger's performance in dark Knight was the best of the series though.

As for favorite movies, Its hard to pick with so many good ones, but Batman begins, iron Man, captain America Winter soldier, and the avengers all are up there. Xmen Days of future past was also great.

Generally I've enjoyed all of the marvel films lately. Some more than others but I've never come away disappointed

I enjoy the marvel ones because there's enough tie in between them that it's continuing the same story.. brings some elements of TV writing over.

But yes, far too many Spider-Man movies, and DC is trying way too hard to rush its way to its answer to the marvel cinematic universe. DCs WB shows though have actually been solid.

Batman Begins is the best of the trilogy. The Dark Knight is actually pretty bad in the scenes not involving the Joker. The movie gets talked about as the best, but in reality it's Heath Ledgers performance that's the best, not the movie. The scenes not involving Ledger are not very good.

The Dark Knight for me. Great overall film, and Ledger's performance was one for the ages that won't ever be topped. Captain America: The Winter Soldier would probably make my top three. Guardians of the Galaxy is damn good, too (I saw it for the first time a couple months ago and loved it; can't wait for the new one). I went with the Avengers as one of the top three because it was a pretty daring concept to put that many headliners into one film, but they pulled it off with flying colors and justified all the work they've put in to build the MCU.

A few other films I'd have like to see listed as options: Deadpool, Ant-Man (that movie was a pleasant surprise and just plain fun).
