Sounds to me like we are setting up an NCAA tournament (12 teams) and then the NIT (all that is left over). These left over games will be the old HS consolation games, for those that remember playing these tournament games.

Field conditions can get questionable in that time of year as well, as we found out in that ****** drake game a few years back.

Since first round games will be played on campus sites, does that mean the four losers of first round games will be eligible to play in bowl games? I haven't seen that discussed anywhere yet.
It could suck to have a historic regular season, be ranked #12, get blown out on the road in early December to the #5 team, and be staying home over the holidays. Normally, fans would be looking at a pretty exciting bowl trip.

The bowl system is the dumbest postseason in all of sports. Sure they are fun as hell to go to but whoever thought to pair up the same two conferences over and over and play a meaningless exhibition game and call in the postseason is crazy. Give me 12 teams all day long (and you can still play meaningless bowl games).
Time to re-propose my CFB bowl game draft as a televised event on the night following championship games. Draft order would be determined by game payout, no conference affiliation would exist. Bowl committees would be given 10 minutes to choose two teams to play giving ESPN time to discuss the matchups while the next choice is being made. You would get many more better matchups and it would be a good made for TV event.
I’d still rather be in the playoffs. If you’re hosting you probably won’t get blown out(obviously some exceptions), and if you’re the away team you can travel there if you’d like.
I’d be happy going to a home playoff game personally. But then again I always go to Chiefs games in January as well which isn’t for everyone.
ISU would be a wildcard in that scenario.

Am I the only one who groaned at no conference limits for playoff spots? I'd like to see it limited to 2 per conference but 3 would be acceptable. If you're not top 2 or 3 in your conference you should not be playing for the national championship. It's already been proven by the regular season that there are several teams better than you.

Have no fear. The ESPN hype machine will do its best to ensure most of the open bids go to the SEC and most SEC Teams will be ranked high enough to play at home.
You can take that to the bank.
In principle, I don't want a limit imposed for conference representation. As a fan of the sport, of course, I prefer the at-large field isn't saturated with "glorified 4th place teams" in SEC (and probably Big Ten) year-in, year-out.
Ultimately, though, that comes down to developing a reliable system of selection. That's the X-factor that still needs work -- whether it's a field of 4, 6, 8 or 12. ... That's the challenge. If you get a system that assesses properly, and occasionally a P5 has 4 of 12 bids, and it's valid, so be it.
(Edit: Even with that, more than 2 from one conference ought to be RARE).
Yep. Limit it to 3, and #3 has to play on the road in the first round unless its against another #3 seeded lower.
Intellectually I can accept that maybe/probably the 3rd best team in a power 5 conference is probably better than most G5 conference champions. That said, I'd still rather see it played out on the gridiron than see 3rd place Texas A&M playing 4th place Auburn in the first round. And I realize ISU might theoretically be left out with this thinking, but I think it's better for the game.
Trust me that won't happen, UT, OU, Clemson, Bama will never have to come up north in Dec. I think Texas has only played in Ames once or twice late season don't think OU has ever had to. (not sure though and to lazy to research)
I think 3 would be fine. There have been several times where 3 would have been justified even in the 10 team Big 12. 4 you start getting a little crazy. But I'd expect at least 3 from some conference every year.
Now the debates will be about the at large teams, I guarantee the committee hedges their bets and makes sure the b1g and SEC are packing the 7-15 spots in the polls. They never fail to move the goalposts to keep their cash cows fed.
