Texans near deal to send Rosenfels to Vikings
Minnesota would give up draft pick to land quarterback

The Texans and Minnesota are close to completing a trade that would send quarterback Sage Rosenfels to the Vikings, possibly for a fourth-round draft choice.

The Texans had no comment on the report.

This is the second year in a row in which the Vikings have been interested in acquiring Rosenfels as their starting quarterback. Rosenfels, who won six games in the last two seasons when replacing the injured Matt Schaub, is approaching the last year of his contract. If the trade is completed, the Vikings will want to extend Rosenfels' contract.

Rosenfels, who grew up in Iowa and played at Iowa State, was hoping to be traded to the Vikings last year. Media reports said Minnesota offered a third-round draft choice, but the Texans wanted a second-round pick. Both teams denied an offer was made. The reason Rosenfels wants to be traded to the Vikings is that he would have a chance to start for a team that has Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor at running back and as has led the NFL in run defense for the last two years.

The proposed 4th round pick reflects how much Sage's stock has dropped in the last year. A deal didn't get done last year because the Texans wouldn't budge from wanting a 2nd while the Vikings were only willing to give up a 3rd.

Nice - I'm excited about his chances up here. Sage is a damn good QB and he'll have a better supporting cast up here in MN. With that said, most Vikings fans will not be very happy with this trade. They want a big name.

First, it's a good point Sage has wanting to go there - as he's got a great backfield. The receiving options need to be upgraded, IMO.

As far as the picks, his stock certainly fell after the poor showings this year. Houston should've taken that deal last year.

Yeah I would feel sorry too for a guy that is given the starting job for a team that is a QB away from being a Super Bowl contender. I mean who wants to be an NFL starter and get a chance to go deep in the playoffs really.

I'm a Bears fan, but I would definitely root for Sage to do well. Of course, getting 450 yards, 3 TDs and losing would be ok.

Wow has his stocked dropped. Last year the Texans wouldn't trade him for a 3rd round pick. I am kinda sad I will be rooting against him though.

And they would be justified, not because of the lack of big name, but Sage has not performed well in most of his starts. I thought this year was his shot to become the QB down there in Houston and if he would've shown up, Schaub would not have seen the field again in '08 and perhaps '09.

About the only Viking fans that will be excited over this are also Cyclone fans.

I do hope he does well, all Viking pokes aside.

He'll have a better running game, but it will be a lot different not having Andre Johnson to throw to, either.

Please God, let this be true. The only problem is that it should have happened a year ago.
