I just went to my local Gadget Store to find out what the correct answer is. Unfortunately, I'm out $500, because when I tried passing a fake bill across to the Gadget owner he called the police. I had to post a $500 bail so I could get back online here and tell you all what the correct answer is. My court date is in 3 weeks so I should have an answer by then.

He has to be down $95 bucks like said above because if he goes to the local McDonalds and buys a burger from a EIU grad and he gets authentic change back, he would have his original $100 back minus the burger which would put him back to +$5 that he originally would have made had the bill been real in the first place.

Here's the transaction.

The answer is $95. In exchange for the worthless paper he gives the buyer an item that cost him $15 and $80 in change. He received $100 from store owner B which he later returns for a net effect of zero. Therefore his total loss is $95.

Did you take into account of lost time? Or the cost of the Sticker that displays the price? Or the psychotherapy the owner will have to go through now to get over being duped? Or the restocking fee? I don't know if I can believe it only cost him 95 bucks.

The is definately not a good testament to the quality of education offered by Iowa State University.

As an English major, that sentence isn't either.
