$95.
$95.
I just went to my local Gadget Store to find out what the correct answer is. Unfortunately, I'm out $500, because when I tried passing a fake bill across to the Gadget owner he called the police. I had to post a $500 bail so I could get back online here and tell you all what the correct answer is. My court date is in 3 weeks so I should have an answer by then.
Seller of Gadget:
+$15(from A for gadget)
-gadget(to A)
Punk who ripped owner off:
+gadget(from A)
+$80cash(from A)
-FakeBill(to A)
Owner A:
+gadget(from seller of gadget)
-$15cash(to seller of gadget to purchase gadget)
+FakeBill(from Punk)
-$80(to Punk for change)
-gadget(to Punk)
+$100cash(from owner B)
-FakeBill(to owner B)
-$100cash(to B to pay for FakeBill)
+FakeBill(from owner B)
Owner B:
-$100(to A)
+FakeBill(from A)
+$100(from A)
-FakeBill(to A)
total monetary gains for each person:
Orriginal seller: +$15
Punk: +$80
Owner A: -$95
Owner B: $0
Here's the transaction.
The answer is $95. In exchange for the worthless paper he gives the buyer an item that cost him $15 and $80 in change. He received $100 from store owner B which he later returns for a net effect of zero. Therefore his total loss is $95.
