Boy I bet those other ~10 teams are glad they lost that sweepstakes.

It just had to be Cleveland gettin' saddled with the worst contract in the history of pro sports.
Welllll, what about the baseball contract where someone is getting paid long after they have quit. It was a team on the east coast.
That was a great deal for the player. IMO

Don't think they paid him $2M+ to show up for autographs or meet-n-greets. Don't know who the poster was (Tennessee NIL guy?), but comments sound like sour grapes.

He got paid by the Vols to be a top level QB, some other school will lay out the coin. Heck, I didn't realize until recently Duke paid $4M for their portal QB from Tulane.

Every P4 school outside the Top 20 is seeking relevancy.

Maybe, but it could also very easily be a car dealership owner or someone that put up the big bucks for him too and he pulled shenanigans. I could be wrong but you’d have to really love wasting money or the chance of wasting money quickly if you invest heavily in an avg college qb. Seems like he has handled this very poorly because he probably could have gotten more from Tennessee I’d bet (not double) but if you’re really not super committed and possibly shopping offers like it sounds like he did as a coach and booster I’d be concerned to pay him more and then transfer again after a year too.

Don't know if this was already discussed somewhere or not?

Volunteer star QB holds out of spring practice, demands going from $2 mil per year to $4 mil per year in NIL, or he will enter portal.

UT amazingly to me... says... "don't let the door hit ya on the way out". What a crazy world we are in.
Not such an impressive statement by Josh Heupel about Nico! I’m thinking the opposing recruiting coaches will keep this video to help sway top QBs fro choosing TN if they do not want to be trashed (laced with F Bombs) like this when they do not meet TN expectations. I like & support TN telling him to walk, but some more class would have been a better means of exiting the relationship, IMO!

I watched this kid play last year and would put Rocco way above him! Good for UT to give the boot - they can pick up Sullivan from the hoks!

If I'm not mistaken, I think he played in their bowl game against Iowa as a true freshman 2 years ago (without burning a year of eligibility), and he kicked Iowa's rear end.

No good coach wants a headcase at QB. He wasn't complaining when he got 2 million to sit on the bench.

He has a 4-year deal for 8 million. That seems fair. Just bc the Tulane qb got 4, doesnt mean you got screwed. If the Tulane QB got 150,000, would that make you overpaid? Would you tell Tennessee they overpaid for you and remit some of your NIL back to Tenn?

He may be making more than brock Purdy.

Sure they do. Contracts are given in hopes of potentially winning games. It's all potential.

That’s quite a way to try to spin your comment. Literally no one talks about potential in that way when talking about individuals.

The NFL will not give a **** about this. It's already full of guys who put money first, and are seeking the best deal that they can get. They're absolutely used to dealing with those kind of players because... the NFL is a business and they're not trying to pretend that it's something else, like the NCAA has been, and continues, trying to do.

If Nico's draft stock falls, it will be because he's not good enough, not because he sought a big payday.
Correct, Nico was doing this probably because there’s a very small chance he’s an NFL caliber qb

Dont give Tennessee ideas on who to go get to be their new QB. They are so pissed off at Nico but they won't blink an eye to go out and buy his replacement from a poorer school from the Big 12 or ACC.

I think you're referring to Bobby Bonilla day:

Griffey Jr got paid $3,593,750 every year from 2008-2024 second highest paid player on the Reds for years after he was gone. The deferred money in the MLB is kind of trash

It’s a totally different scenario though.

Bonilla was getting bought out, it wasn’t his original contract to skirt the luxury tax.

Also, Bonilla is getting paid for 25 years (2011-2035), which is insane.
