I will be attending the NDSU game and I just have some questions about tailgating. I was looking at the ISU website and the lots open up six hours before the game. Do they typically fill up fast for a weekday game? Also, are there certain lots you can tailgate in?

Thanks for the help and I hope we can keep the game interesting!

For the Thursday games, they really don't start to fill up until 60-90 min before gametime. I always take this day off work and it is pretty quiet until 4:30-5ish.

Agreed but if you're not in the lot 60-90min prior to the game you may be waiting in a line to get into a lot.

Two years ago my wife and I left at about 4:30 and got to Ames around 5:15. We were coming up hyw 69 from Ankeny and found ourselves stopped outside of town about 1 mile south of hyw 30 at a crawl. We ended up parking in a hotel parking lot and walked about 3/4mile while others continued to wait in line. We made the kick off by a few minutes, they didn't. The problem is many folks wait until after work and travel to Ames getting them there ~60min prior to kickoff. Our inflow of traffic isn't great with high volumes. I'll be getting there around 2:00 this year. And as was stated above, things are relatively slow around that time.

Good luck and enjoy tailgating.

The public lots, where she would likely be parking, will be pretty full around then (4:30-5:00) since that's where the students and any road fans will be tailgating.

You'll want to check out the grass lot on the NE corner at the intersection of 13th street and Grand Ave. The parking can be tough to get, but that is where the big party goes down.

Public lots are kind of scattered around. But, the majority of them are south and southeast of the stadium, in the grass.

The rowdiest will be the student lots, directly south of the stadium at the corner of University BLVD and South 16th St. A lot of students to drink and play games with. Don't go in there talking smack though.

Even some of the donor lots get pretty rowdy, but you can't exactly park there w/out a pass. G2 is almost entirely students, whereas G3 is a mix of students, non-donating ISU fans, and road fans. G3 is where you'll likely end up.

with all the requests from the CF group for lakesbison to have a drink with them, Im guessing walking around is the best to do huh??

and it would be the most fair. (except for the guy that started the thread with the profound hate for ndsu based on 1 guy on the internet)
