Hmm...you don't say? I'm in Muscatine for the summer so I will have to give the TJ's a shot for lunch soon. Needless to say I've been very impressed with the food options in Muscatine so far.

The one on the southend (with the fancy sign) is best! (im not sure if the northend one is even still there)
Muscatine does not have a lot of great "sit-down" restaurants, but the fast food is actually really good.

My parents live in Muscatine & I can confirm the northend one has been closed for a couple years.

I always thought it was interesting that Muscatine had 2 hardees, 2 Taco Johns, and 2 Happy Joes. (only 1 McDonalds!) For a town of roughly 30k, that is pretty rare Id say.

The Hardee's on the north end is closed. I am very surprised they had 2 of them at one time. They need to get rid of one of the Happy Joes in Muscatine and reopen one in Ames...it's so good!

Breakfast burritos at Taco Johns are good, especially with the spicy sausage.

I do not go to Ames much but have had it twice. Good but pricy.
Taco Time the last few years has had an amazing sale on Cinco De Mayo. .59 tacos! Plus, they really load up their tacos with meat unlike TB and TJ. Otherwise if you are buying at regular price, it can be a little pricey.

I was disappointed in Ames' Happy Joes. Muscatine's is great! One time I randomly asked them (mtown Happy Joes) why that was and they said its because they dont freeze their crust and all of their ingredients are very fresh. They said most of the other franchises aren't that way.

It's worth the drive for some crisp meat burritos!:spinny:

Wait a minute.... are you saying you would choose taco bell or taco john's over the other three...

You sir, ARE NOT a food expert....

That is not at all what I said. I was stating, in a more difficult way than necessary, that the towns I frequent do not have those three places.

I have had taco time and tasty tacos and while good, I can have authentic mexican of better quality with free chips and salsa as well as normally having leftovers, all for the same price or cheaper in the same amount of time any of those places take. $3 a taco? I'll take a fajita quesadilla for $7.

Also, if you have not tried the Salvatore's Pizza downtown yet, definitely do that!

I can't believe no one has brought up the inexcusably jacked-up prices at the Ames Taco Bell. I'll still go there to get my fix once in a while but I swear everything on their menu is at least .30-.50 more than a "normal" Taco Bell.

Yes, this place has awesome pizza. Did they rebuild the Happy Joe's on the northend that got burnt down a couple years back?

I never had the Ames Happy Joes but I knew that we had one before the floods of '10. But the Happy Joe's in Muscatine (north side) is very good! That is interesting about the crust but it makes sense. Also, they now have cinnamon rolls on their buffet and they are very tasty.

I did and it is amazing! I've also had a Guy and a Grill which is very good for grilled food.

Grew up with Taco Time in Boone....always #1 is my fat little heart. Will stop if Im back in Ames. I think T.Bell and T.Johns both have their plus items. Bell: pico de galo, dorito shell, good desserts, less salty chip. Johns: oles, better meats(chicken) and their chips n queso is the best value around.

Yes they did and it is very nice. It only costs me $6 to get a buffet there so I have done it several times.

Way up there
Nice to see the cheesy fiesta taters getting some love, they give me a little hope that TB will bring back their border fries, they were the bomb. Anyone else old enough to have enjoyed Border Fries?
