I think the worst example is when Boston Rob came on and everyone blindly followed him all the way to him wining a million dollars. I couldn't believe they didn't get rid of him at the last vote.

That season drove me nuts how everyone just had this crush on Rob and were sheep being led to slaughter. He deserved to win that season with how dumb everyone was to let him call the shots basically from day 1.

Love or hate him Russell Hantz 1st season was a brilliant game too but in the end he pissed off too many people with all his blindsides and idol plays it was a bitter jury that didn't reward him for the great game he played. Every jury seems to be different as some who have played the best games got rewarded while others got screwed in the end because people took the social part of the game too personal and voted for someone they liked better even if their overall game lacked. Russell basically played the exact same strategy his 2nd season too because he played in back to back seasons so his 1st season hadn't aired yet. Made the final 3 again and ran into the same issue that cost him the win the first time. Was the 2nd person voted out his 3rd time playing which was no surprise because by then everyone knew who he was and his game play.

I hated Hantz. But I can also recognize how well he manipulated people. At some point, you have to remember you're pissing off your jury. Some juries rise above how much they were duped; others hold grudges.

Russell is one of the best ever at getting to the final 3, but probably the worst ever in terms of his chances of winning. Hard to tell if that makes him a really good player or a really bad player.

Best player to never win? Not a coffee drinker?

I'd maybe change it to 'Best player incapable of winning'. He's so unabashed about sabotaging and backstabbing I have a hard time seeing any jury ever giving him the nod.

For the past few seasons I've been wanting them to find a way to avoid the merge, or at least wait to do it until much much later. The merge has gotten to be something that's predictable and expected, players strategy revolving around just making it to the merge. I think it'd be great to throw this curveball at them, would be completely unexpected.

I would also like them to start off as one tribe for a couple challenges and then put them in predetermined tribes

Our question is, do they go to the same "edge"? Or do they have a series of little atolls that they are using to keep them all separate?

I hadn't even thought of that as a possible direction they'd go with the separate locations. I just assumed it was similar to the style that MTVs The Challenge used a few years ago where the most recent person eliminated would have to battle the person still standing from elimination (the person on Extinction Island in this case). Whoever loses goes home, whoever wins then lives on the island until the next castoff arrives. I like that this setup makes it hardest for the first castoff to return (by winning every battle) since they didn't have to compete in the game for several rounds/weeks.

It would be pretty interesting to see each in their own little area without any interaction with others (Naked and Afraid style without the naked)

I'd be surprised if they have a regular challenge to stay on extinction. Either they all will be on their own or they will just have to wait until whatever it is they have to do to get back in and it will be just 1 big challenge winner takes all. They already had a redemption island season where you basically had to face off in a duel each time a new cast away was sent there so I doubt they copy that this time around. Really interested to see next week how this is going to work assuming Keith decides to stay in the game.

Last night's episode was just "meh." Another attempt to get rid of Wentworth de-railed again. Thought maybe would have been more drama with Wendy and the chickens plus her injured ankle but looks like that is coming next episode. The chicken thing is so annoying as every season there is at least 1 person "oh don't kill the chickens!" I loved how Wardog called her out as a hypocrite since she is not a vegan and eats chicken at home. I'm sorry but if you have watched Survivor over the years you know that killing a chicken is a real possibility so if you can't handle it then maybe not agree to be on the show? I hope if she sticks around long enough to make a reward challenge with food there is lots of meat there that she will have to either stick to her word about not eating any more meat or cave in and be ridiculed for it.

And unfortunately they are about to do the thing several here have said they don't like which is tribe swap to 3 tribes next. We got our first look into what life on extinction island will be like, apparently a long daily walk to get a little portion of rice is part of it.

I think the island thing is going to end up being a big let down. The one thing that would be really cool and not fair at all would be to have waited a few more episodes and just make extinction island a third tribe and have Pobst tell everyone that survivor has now started. Then explain that people were not being voted out and they were actually voting for a new tribe. That would be pretty cool. Won't happen but it would be a huge twist.

Yeah my wife mentioned last night wouldn't it be cool if they get to the midway point and Jeff just said "new twist, we are going to have the tribe at extinction face off with those who are left in a winner take all tribal immunity challenge." Never will happen but wouldn't that be one heck of an all out battle. My guess is they have 1 challenge at extinction the same time they have the merge and that person re-enters the game.

My first thought was why not just camp up at the top of where the steps lead?

I think they will regret not voting Lauren off. She seems like she is headed down that path of having a break down with not eating and kind of moping around camp. Starting to think the rest of that tribe needs to wise up and vote off Wardog as it seems like his vote has been carrying the most weight at every tribal so far.

Wendy pretty much sealed her fate too by letting the chickens go. I am hoping someone catches one and kills it to eat. The meltdown from that could be epic.

If Wendy is not taken out in the next two tribals, she will be taken to final 3. I sure as hell would take her....she'll never win in front of a jury and is always that easy out that people will say "Wendy can be taken out any time, lets get a threat out"

Wendy is what she is at this point. Her decision to release the chickens is stupid and can't be ignored, but I think otherwise she's a generally likable personality.

Was sad to see Rick get voted off - his "performance" and reactions at tribal were hilarious. Hoping he ends up getting back in the game via however they use the Edge of Extinction.

Yeah Rick leaving really sucks. Let's be honest, this cast is not as shiny/sexy as David Vs. Goliath (hence the addition of 4 returnees), and Rick was a bright spot. Hoping this gives the chance for others to step it up.

Btw, love David Wright's confessionals. Always so articulate/passionate and subtly funny at times.

I really like Rick's personality too, but if it becomes a physical challenge at EofE like it appears to be in the previews of next week, I don't hold out a lot of hope for him. He has not appeared to be a force so far in the strength/stamina department...
