Who cares. It’s as simple as a writer can look at 247, see an in state school where his Dad went offered, and he didn’t go there. I doubt they are going to dig into the details of if offers are still there, does he know he got recruited over, etc.

Technically the 247 website does show him with an offer to all those schools, including Iowa State. So if the writer only does 30 seconds of research with no critical thinking, CJ would appear to have picked North Texas over all those schools.

He's a clueless Hawk. Eric Pratt is a hawk fans also but he writes balanced and good articles. Dana Becker is the print equivalent of Quinn "neck beard" Douglas in radio.

The Dirty Overall leans pretty heavy on the tavern hawk side, though with like Nik Moser ISU is gaining but still a minority.
Same folks that will say Iowa dominates in-state basketball recruiting. Yep, sure, have it all

Dana Becker, the author of this particular piece of poison tripe, is definitely someone to avoid. You talk about a terrible spin on the situation. Let me see, I am holding offers from many Power 4 schools and I chose to go to North Texas. It sounds like he was directed to begin his career at a mid-major, thus avoiding the "freshman pine seat" for a season. He is a 3 star recruit that needs playing time. After all, he does hail from basketball bloodline, so he will eventually level up.

Who knows, in a couple of years, he may enter the transfer portal and become a Cyclone after all.
Exactly. Anyone outside the top 25-50 high school kids should really consider going mid major, get playing time and improve their chances to transfer up. Assuming the lower program can develop your skills, doing that would put you ahead of the kid that goes P5, sits for a year, and then gets "sent down to the minors".

I feel like we can expect a little more out of journalism, no? At the very least they could leave the sensational language out of it and just stick to the facts and say something like "numerous recruiting services list ISU as offering Stinson a scholarship where his father played basketball". I mean even a minimal amount of research shows he hasn't been on campus since June of 23 which is a pretty big red flag. I guess we just have zero standards for journalists now and we make excuses for doing zero research on their subject.

Not losing sleep over this one, the headline is obviously click bait. Had he signed with ISU he'd probably sit on the end of the bench and transfer out in a year like a lot of other guys have lately. I hope he kills it at North Texas and gets some interest in the transfer portal in a year or 2.

I saw this story before reading this thread. I just assumed it was another one of those AI click bait hack jobs. It seems like they are mostly what come up on my phone's "news" feed.

I will say the assumption of a legacy recruit picking a school is something I think is overplayed, too. Sure, there may be familiarity via the family, but that is usually at least 20 years since their parent attended, etc.

Especially in modern times, so many more moving parts to it all.

He's not Big 12 ready at the moment but it's a wise choice on his part going to North Texas. Theses days you just need to produce at that level for a few years and then before Jr year cash in and go to a bigger school and get that money.

Third hand, months ago, via someone who would know and is not affiliated with ISU: Stinson Jr. plateaued, and didn’t develop to match the expectations behind the early offers. I don’t think he could have committed to a P4 school. Hopefully he finds another gear in college, want nothing but the best for him and DRob.

I think most high school players should be aiming to playing at a mid-major, if they are not a top-50 recruit. The reason is that they have better odds of getting playing time and racking up good stats against mid-major teams. Then, they have a much better chance to land a NIL transfer spot and cash in.

Good for Curt. I think North Texas is a great fit for him. He's a great kid with a really nice game, I just don't think it was fit for the Big12 or ISU. Valley won their third straight title, their first without him. To be honest, they looked a lot better without him on the court. Not saying he was weighing them down at all, I'm just not sure his style of play gelled with the rest of the Valley team.

Writers of articles don't write the headlines. That's a different job.

^This. The guy wrote it as a straight report. He's mostly a HS sports guy with some ISU stuff for SI and Stinson was an Iowa prep before last year. Nothing in the article even hints at "spurned", that was a Sport Illustrated click bait title add which worked to get Cyclone fans to click.

Wondering if we actually offered him or not? Maybe a legacy offer with a realistic assessment of how much he would play?
