Still wondering what happened to names on jerseys?

Does anyone know...I don't like the no name look. Although, the way we played they may be appropriate.

I wasn't thinking anything...just wondering what happened? And is this a permanent look?

I kind of liked it. Clean, classic look.

Although, as one who doesn't live and die by the recruiting wire and didn't have the foresight to buy a program - it was a little tough figuring out who was who of the newer guys.

Maybe it's also got JP's influence to increase revenues through program sales????

It's the old strategy of playing for the name on the front of the jersey instead of the name on the back.

Problem was, some of the numbers were even wrong in the program.

Yeah, that's what I figured was the reasoning behind it, however I really don't like having no-names just because it's hard to tell who's who. Obviously most of the 'stars' you remember their numbers, but for some of the lesser known players (or new players) it's hard to know's out there.

I thought the uniforms looked like something out of high school JV football without the names on the back. It makes us look like a low level team. Please bring back the names and get rid of the horrible yellow pants. The red ones looked a ton better!!

You definitely need names on the back of jerseys in football. Atleast in basketball you only have 10 guys to keep track of, not 80. It looks generic and JVish like the poster above said. Not a big deal by anymeans, but still.

Our Varsity football team has names on the back of our jerseys.

Doesn't mean they could beat Iowa State.

Hell, they couldn't beat any football team on the planet, including pee-wee.

From where I sit you couldn't read the name on the back anyway. I like the no name thing anyway. Like it was said you play for the name on the front not the one on the back. I didn't like they yellow pants either but I wouldn't say the red was a ton better. I always thought they should where the red tops and white pants at home and white tops and red pants on the road instead of all red and all white.

Not to mention that you can't see their faces....

I like the no names idea, and I really like the gold pants. I thought they looked great, even though they didn't match the helmets well....but as we know they're changing that next year.

While I was at the game I hated the look of no names on the back, but after watching the highlights on TV during the Gene Chizik show I actually liked the look. I think we'll all get used to it. I love the gold pants too.

I don't like not having the names, I understand the whole "team concept" thing, but there are millions of other ways to do that without taking off the names. I think its just easier, better to recognize the players from a fan perspective. The rest of the uniforms were just fine, but still looking more forward to the iowa game throwbacks and next years unis!

Oh yes, it is much easier to read a name in 2 inch letters than it is to see a number that is 10 to 12 inches high from 30 to 100 yards away! I love the no name look...doesn't seem to hurt USC in recruiting and nobody ever accuses them of looking like a JV team...does it?

As for the gold pants...our colors are cardinal and gold...not cardinal and white or cardinal and cardinal. I did think the uniforms looked a little odd but upon review it is because the helmets have absolutely no gold at all on them (save for maybe Cy's beak on the Cy logo). If the helmets had some gold like they should, the look would be fine.

Did Chizik say anything on his TV show about the names...maybe the numbers were simply unsettled on who was wearing what for the first game. Anyone with insight on what may have been said?

I don't care, really. It's Chizik's team and as long as he has the support of his staff, players and the AD's office - that's really all that matters.

The names are off the jerseys, and are staying off the jerseys. Hopefully the staff has quit changing numbers around, so future game programs will be correct.

Only one name matters, Iowa State. I think that it will look better with the new uniforms. If you aren't going to have names, you have to make the numbers bigger as well. I think that's how it will be when we have new uniforms.

I have always loved this approach. It is a very small thing. It doesn't matter what your team's uniforms look like. All that matters is that they play together and make each other better by doing so. Like I said its a small thing, but it is a step in the right direction for team building.

Names were only put on the back in the first place to make players more easily identifiable for broadcasts. With all of the things broadcasters have right at their fingertips now, names on the back are completely unnecessary.

Names on jerseys are great for TV, I hope Chizik looks at this different once we get some TV time on a national level.
