I've read quite a few Dean Koonz books. Mostly dystopic stories, so far. I might try King. I've only read the JFK book and it was good. What are the best King books? Dark Tower? The Stand? Shining? IT? Dead Zone? I've heard that the newer King books are not as good as the classics. Maybe there is a different thread discussing this topic.
It, Salem's Lot & The Stand are my favorites. Also liked Needful Things, Thinner, etc. A lot of them are good but not great. I wanted to like the Dark Tower series because I liked everything about the idea, but it just never caught my attention like I hoped it would. Might have to go back and try again.

I had trouble with reading the book too then I got the audiobooks and it made it much more enjoyable. Wish I would have done that with The Wheel of Time series:)

If you’re going to get into them, I’d add Misery to the list, along with the ones others have mentioned.

I was able to select a free book at an event a year and a half ago. I selected King's novel The Outsider. I was about a third of the way into it and I thought, "Wow, this is a departure for King - no supernatural, no monsters - just a story about how violent crime tears apart people and communities. I guess he's done some of that non-horror like The Body and Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption." Well...then Stephen King happened....

My favorites? Well, The Stand and Salem's Lot are the only ones I have read more than once. I'll probably read The Green Mile again at some point. Mrs. Velo and I bought those as they came out in serial form and read them to each other. It was kind of a cool way to enjoy it together.

Are we going to remake everything that has been done before? I see there is a 8th different Superman coming out. Yeah.....
Yes. Has to be simply risk aversion from studios as I refuse to believe that there aren't a million fascinating true stories that would make awesome movies, or that there are no good writers anymore.

Salems Lot is my favorite novel ever. Not just by King.

I couldnt finish it. It was so depressing, so relentlessly dark and hopeless. I just couldnt go on.
And i mean that in a good way. Kings story was so powerfully well done, it wore me down and was affecting my soul. Had to stop. It was like overdosing on hopelessness and sad.
Maybe that's why I liked it so much? I don't know. It just resonated. Not sure what that says about me, but... :D
