What was the controversy with the Stanford Band? I never heard about it until today in David Ubben's blog. Big 12 Blog - ESPN

I found a video here, and they spell out a bunch of things (from what I could tell below), but I don't see how this is so insulting to the state of Oklahoma. Judging from some of the comments online, you'd think the band insulted their mothers. Did I miss something?

This is what I will always think of when the Stanford Band comes up...

From what it seems, OK State fans got butthurt over nothing because they don't understand that Stanford's band isn't traditional and like to have a good time.

If they did actually urinate on the field, thats pretty messed up..haha. But driving around against USC in a bloody white bronco is pretty damn funny

People were mad about the pregame where they mocked the state of Oklahoma by playing "Oklahoma" while spelling out "Land of Lame." Some OSU people on Twitter also said that the "announcer" made comments about Okies "doing strange things with animals."

That's a little over the line (weird)

Stanford's band was also playing during the awards ceremony and trophy presentation and were told multiple times to stop playing and never did. Sounds like they were pretty disrespectful to me.

They are often very disrespectful. It's kind of part of their reputation. For example their halftime show when they played BYU the announcer said something along the lines of "Marriage is a bond between Man and woman and woman and woman...etc."

And their from San Francisco... What the hell do people expect? Their going to be a bit creepy and weird.

No, Stanford is in Palo Alto. That's like saying Iowa State is in Des Moines. They're the same distance apart. Know what you're saying before you say it.

Stanford's band has always had a reputation for being rather classless, so it doesn't surprise me one bit. Although, as a Cal fan, I'm not going to have much to say about them that's nice anyway...

It's in the Bay area though and everyone is a little "different" up there. 20 miles is a huge difference too, I'm sorry for getting it wrong.....

Wow, talk about generalizations. That's like saying no one in Missouri can read just because they call it the "Show Me" state. But I'm glad you know "everyone" who has ever lived in the Bay Area and can make that kind of statement.

And it's nearly 40 miles between Stanford and SF. My original point and comparison stand.

Sorry, my family and I are from southern Cal..... I'm a little biased. Don't take it so personal.
