I think Payne and Peavy will be our starters at CB because I feel they are both better than Wiltz and Tribune.

Jarnor Jones really puzzles me. Not much talk about him, and on most depth charts he's either 2nd or 3rd string. I thought last year he was possibly our best outside pass rusher, even with his lack of size. He was fast and had those long levers that he used to get around those tackles.

But where do you put him? I don't really understand this LEO position very well, but with his pass rushing ability, could he play there? Or can you put him in the Nickel and let him rush off the edge from there? I hate to see a guy with the ability to put such pressure on opposing QB's sitting on the bench.

On offense, don't sleep on Carson Epps. Great route runner, gets open, and can catch the ball. He's nothing real flashy, but knows how to get open and usually always will catch it.

Jones would be a great jam guy at the line of scrimmage. Big body, good tackler, he would also be great rushing off the edges. I imagine he will find his way on the field.

I think Jones will get plenty of PT at nickel. They will probably use him there in short yardage type plays

Totally agree Clonedude..Payne will be starting at corner..all indications are aside from maybe Peavy he is our best CB and a massive upgrade. As for the LEo position...My understanding is it's a DE who needs to be able to stand up and cover down field at times..say a TE. This position kinda depends on the formation you are lining up in but mostly the LEO position needs to have speed on the edge..LEo will often line up wide inviting offense to run thru gaps that seem to be available but close in a hurry. LEO is a jack of all trades type position lining up as a DE yet looking like a 3rd LB at times needs to be big enough to take on a OT yet fast enough to be in coverage if needed. And this is why I said earlier I felt that Justin Stewart starts from Day 1. Maybe he will be too far behind the curve getting here late but you watch his film and he has speed at the DE like I've not seen since Berryman. He also appears to be able to take on OT although this was JUCO film and this is Big 12 football so we will see. Luna fits the role but can he stay healthy.

As for J Jones..Yea he's just a tweener..Too small for LB and too big to play corner. I think he gets utilized a lot in red zone coverage though. He is intriguing I agree. If he improves his speed he would def make for a lethal DB with his length.

Unless a new guy emerges (which is entirely possible), with our 5 db formation we will need Tribune or Wiltz to start at CB. I think the bigger key is our 2nd safety. Cotton-Moya has been a good player who needs to take that next step and play at an All Big12 level. If we can find another quality safety, that will help our CB play.

The good thing about a new coaching staff is every player gets a clean slate. How they played in prior years is ancient history. New coaches, new formations, new techniques may enhance the play of some guys and I fully expect to see 3-4 surprise starters emerge

Guess I don't understand how running a 4-2-5 D is needing Wiltz and Tribune to start? Peavy and Payne at CB and Moyà and say Everrett or Johnson at safety. I'll be very very surprised pleasantly if Wiltz and Tribune trout onto the field to play corner first series vs UNI cause that means they beat out Peavy and Payne. WTS..we will need 7-8 DBs to play all year and rotate. The good news is Tribune and Wiltz may make for decent 2nd team subs.

He said Tribune or wiltz. The other will likely be one of the first off the bench as a 2nd string guy.

Guess only other change from what others have posted is Mitchell Myers..If he's ok to go I think he starts at DE vs UNI. Without question. If he's healthy and back to where he was or more he could actually have a really great year.

DMR has an article on Mitchel Meyer. He has been working out with team all summer. No guarantee he plays on DL this fall, but he sounded optimistic. It would be great if he could play some role- he always played with a great motor. At a minimum it would be nice to get him on the field in pass rushing situations. I would think there is a better shot he plays DE vs. DT.
I think you are right about his playing DE. That is how he is listed on the roster, and that is where he originally started before being the annual DE moved over to shore up the depleted DT position. DT is relatively deep this year, so hopefully he will stay put. And with Darius White foregoing his RS Sr season, Mitchell Myers will have playing opportunity. He will also get plenty of attention from national and opposition media, given his determination to beat cancer. Its a great story. Obviously the DMR is all over it. But remember, too, he was one of the first players CMC met with after landing this gig. Coach no doubt understands that this player's comeback is central to the chemistry of this squad.

IMO, I see Bobek as winning the Center job. Experienced and if healthy would probably be more consistent than RS Freshman Good-Jones. Less of a learning curve. Also, I think that Everett Edwards gets to start at Safety. Like Peavey at one CB for sure. Probably Wiltz or Payne at the other. See Tribune as a backup. At Linebacker we will definitely have Harvey. I see Brian Mills to beat out Kane Seeley. We will see.
If Bobek is up to this challenge, and can stay healthy, it will be a great result. Manna from heaven. You couldn't even hope to fill a position of need with a 6th year senior transfer from a B1G school. Has this ever happened? Anywhere?

He's coming off an MCL, and some other issues prior. Your expectations are way too high. He was not in the two deeps at Mn. We all wish him well, but it's gonna take time. Sounds like a great guy though!

I thought they said he started the first 5 games at MN?

He started. Then had issues. Supposedly healthy now. Hard for an injured player to remain on the 3 deep. Bobek is a good addition who is a walkon.

Where do some people get their information? This is just not true, plain and simple.
