4 malls is a lot for the size of des moines. 1 of them will have to close eventually.

The only thing I remember about that place was the big carousel and some big *** gumball machine.
I honestly thought it had closed down years ago.

I thougt Harrison's was closing as well, maybe not. The place is an absolute dump, living in Indianola I go there every once in awhile to maybe fart around Target. Other than that, there's like a church and a bunch of weird stores, the rest seems to just be abandoned.

Wow. I thought Bath and Body Works and Victoria Secrets were the two biggest stores there? They were always the only ones busy when i go there.

Its sad but inevitable. There are indeed too many malls. I grew up going to SR and worked there for a number of years so watching it go to hell just reminds me I'm getting old!

Honestly I don't go to Merle Hay anymore either, only went to southridge over lunch break to hit target sometimes from downtown, but that was 10 years ago and it wasn't great then.

Not sure its a too many malls thing for Southridge. It was kind of known as a crappy mall before Jordan Creek ever came in. More just poor location.

Merle Hay has batting cages in it? That baby just rocketed to the top of my local malls list.

Merle Hay and Southridge need to cut their losses and realize their time is up. A mall somewhere like Corporate Woods Drive and I-35 in Ankeny would much better suit the population and growth patterns of Des Moines, and the region for that matter.
