Glad to see the forecast total maps posted in here. When the last massive snowfall was predicted and we got squat here in the metro I caught **** from the meteorologists here for calling out the local weathercasters. But we didn't have the forecast maps to prove how far off they were. We'll see how it plays out this time.

They were in there, as they always are. Even posted about Des Moines busting. Ain't nobody hiding from ya. Seemed like most posters were busting your chops for either not listening well enough, and/or expecting a unrealistic level of resolution.

Also, from the looks of it, it was about 16 miles off.

Here's another way to think of this, since "predicting" a tenth of an inch of snow is like trying to predict something around 0.005" to 0.01" of rain...

Green is the forecast, red is trying to show the probability of how/where we could end up missing (i.e. Is the risk/uncertainty on the high or low ends of the forecast. Might be useful for some folks.

How much of this actually accumulates with the recent warm weather?

I know next to nothing on this so honest question.

You're right, there were maps posted in there. You forgot to link these:

I think it will accumulate ok because it's falling during the overnight. Temperatures are going to stay close to freezing, so if it were daylight, I do think the insolation (sunlight) would cut into the totals some. Roads should bounce back quick, especially if they get a little sun on them.

Will be a bit heavy and wet in spots...and the lift is a bit above the ideal placement for the huge fluffy flakes which will lower the snow-to-water ratio and keep totals down some.

Guess I don't see how raw models posted by non-meteorologists factor in to how meteorologists fared, which is 2 of the 3 links but ok.

Know your "forecast."

My son got us tickets for the ISU game with KSU tomorrow a month ago. We were planning on taking my grandson to the game. Called him an hour ago and told him I would be cancelling. We already have 2 inches in Bloomfield with more on the way. Sucks, was really looking forward to spending the game and day with my son and grandson. But at least I can try out my new snow blower tomorrow.
