I ran into a situation where I heard a smoker telling another this comment-" I thought this country gave us the right to choose whether I can smoke or not?" "This is getting to be really hard for me to find a place to smoke anymore." "I believe my constitutional rights have been violated by Freedom of Choice"

Well I could have argued with those comments but I refused to show this person that I don't care that he kills himself.

As for me I had these quesations pop up:

1. Why do I have to go home from a night out smelling like a ashtray?
2. Why do I have to compromise my health for there addiction?
3. Are my rights not violated since I do not smoke and I have to smell that smoke and get sick from it?
4. Why do I have to smell like I just came from a bar when I interview for a position?
5. Why do I have to be poisened slowely so that yo can be satisfied with your addiction?
6. Why do I have to deal with your yellow teeth and yellow smoky fingers and ashtray smelling clothes?
7. why do I have to eat in a resturaunt and have my food taste like I am eating out of a ashtray?

If you have to smoke, don't smike in my house, car or better yet around me without MAJOR venilation

All because you picked up the habit adn now you want everyone else to suffer because you can't quit. Thank god for the smoking ban

I used to smoke. I have quit and really can't even imagine picking up a cigarette again.

If anyone needs that extra push to quit, talk to someone waiting for a lung transplant. I have a friend that has been on the waiting list for years. Talking to him about what he is currently going through and will go through after the transplant is absolutely mortifying.

How many people have breathing problems and complications from others smoking problems. My gal denies that it can happen, but then again its like talking to a brick wall. If I am lucky that brick wall will give me an answer, where she won't.

Although I agree with you, 7 is the same as 1, 5 is the same as 2. #4 is way to specific. How often you do interview for a job? And 6 is not a legitmate reason. If they want yellow teeth and fingers, let them. Its not affecting you.

How often you do interview for a job? - Right now, almost everyday, not just interview but apply. My gal smokes at home and I tried to get her to go outside, to no avial. Soon it will be me or her habit.

Same here. At some point I hope they put provisions in medicare to deny coverage of treatment of smoking related health problems to those who have a history of smoking.

How many years have we known that smoking kills and causes serious health problems? It isn't a matter of IF a smoker will develop serious health issues, it is a matter of when.

People can smoke all they want, I guess. Kill yourself all you want, just don't do it around me or other non-smokers, and don't do it on my dime.

If these complaints are deriving from your woman, it's your own damn fault for getting involved with someone who has a habit you obviously hate so much. In Iowa, they can't smoke in the bars, restaurants, businesses, etc. Is the complaint just about the guy complaining? Is that what Iowa is going to do next? Ban complaining?

I like being able to go to the bar and not smell like smoke but I want to punch the people that complain about people smoking outside. I think they should allow smoking on bar patios.

I agree and they should also deny coverage to people who are overweight, drive too fast, etc. All choices they make.

If someone has a heart attack because they ate too much fried chicken then they should be denied.

Right punishing people for their poor choices is common sense but doesnt work in our system. You would need to benefit those somehow who choose the right way.

It is just frustrating when smoking is often a clear cause of so many chronic medical problems. I think its ok to be frustrated having to pay for other people to make that decision.
