I don't know if anyone else is following this story out of UNC, but it looks like PJ Hairston was likely receiving impermissible benefits from some felon. UNC is currently on probation so I'm curious to see what comes of it.

NCAA rule hypocrisy is getting old.....

Sadly, probably nothing. NCAA too busy with our phone calls and Caltech's class shopping period to punish UNC bball for a guy getting benefits from a felon and driving around with pot and guns.

It's the same old (sad) story. The NCAA has no legal authority to compel anybody to testify as to what happened, so unless somebody willingly spills the beans and admits what happened, nothing is likely going to happen to UNC.

It's UNC so nothing, had it been some school like IUPUI-Fort Wayne the NCAA would lay the hammer down and close down the program.

You're right, Roy will be fine but he'll have to cut Hairston loose.

I hadn't heard about the bogus class thing. So, if you get a few "regular" students to take the class too then you can get away with it. Really?

However, the NCAA has said the no-show classes were a university-wide issue and not specific to athletics, because regular students also took the bogus classes.

Yeah, unreal. How are they getting away with this crap?

While they will probably avoid NCAA scrutiny on this, I would think that the school's accreditation review board would be extremely concerned. That may have bigger effects on the school than whether the basketball program gets penalties. I can't imagine that would go over well. And ultimately, that may get this cleaned up faster than any NCAA investigation can.

UNC is going to come out just fine.

Somehow Hairiston is able to borrow cars from 2 different people living in the same house, can have 22 grams of marijuana in his car, and get away with it.

Come on, NCAA. Do you think everyone else is blind?

"...Officers also seized a 9mm handgun that was found outside the rental vehicle during the search.
The rental vehicle was one of two driven by Hairston and later linked to Haydn "Fats" Thomas, a convicted felon facing a pending drug case..."

Holy crap - something really does smell here.

He's done, but the question is whether the NCAA does anything to UNC. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA were to publicly applaud UNC for the suspension and move along.
