JP should be offering 2 million or more to start with. If he's not, then he's not very serious about landing him.

1.5 million would be an insult for a Big 12 head coaching job. But it wouldn't surprise me at all if JP did low ball him. If that ends up costing us, then JP needs to be shown the door.

Ah the reason for the leak. It might not matter. If we can offer more. If Campbell wants to stay a few more years and wait for a "better" position there is the path.

Or he could jump to an Iowa State team that has the pieces in place to go Bowling next year and get a better job that way too.

Not exactly sure.
The asking price just went up, JP. Will you back down and be cheap like people say you are?

@AutulloAAS: I am told Toledo is prepared to make Iowa State target Matt Campbell the highest paid coach in the MAC.

Pend what numbers they are talking. If they offer 1.5 or so we will be fine. If they go Houston and 3MM then that will be tough.

Shouldn't matter if we want him. Their max is probably 1.5ish and that "should" be well below our basement. On the off chance they can go up to 2 or 2.5, it still shouldn't be a factor if he likes the opportunity at ISU.
I agree. If we have anyone to be nervous about, it's Mizzou or another P5 school that jumps in last minute and blind offers him (if there's such a thing).

@AutulloAAS: Matt Campbell turns 36 tomorrow. Most of his career in front of him. He goes to ISU, loses, and may never be a HC again. Tough to win at ISU

This is the entire problem with campbell. Toledo was good before he took ove and it's usually one of the better teams in the mac.

wow...

You could argue he was part of what made Toledo good before he took the head job since he was a top assistant.

This dude...

@AutulloAAS: I can tell you Toledo plans to put up a fight to keep Campbell. Toledo beat Iowa State this year. In many ways, ISU not an upgrade.

@AutulloAAS: Iowa State fans upset by my comment Toledo in some ways a better job. Tom Herman and Gene Chizik did nothing at ISU. Left and won NC.

FYI I have heard from 2 people that the premature leak isn't sitting well with some parties and this isn't yet a done deal. Campbell is the favorite and numbers have been agreed upon as I previously mentioned, but we were at a very similar stage with a certain candidate about 7 years ago and we walked away at the alter. Just set a cautious reminder.

The guy has got to have some confidence in himself. According to this twitter guy, no coaches would ever climb the coaching latter.

One more comment about religion in this thread, or others on coaching, equals an automatic 14 day ban, end of story. No exceptions, even for "jokes".

Nobody is complaining about hiring people that feel strongly about their religion. The comments were that it isn't appropriate for a state school to only consider candidates who feel strongly about their religion.

lolololol. If this isn't sitting well on JP's side and Campbell goes somewhere else and is successful... everyone will want JP fired.
