A minor subplot is that the SEC has two ex Big 12 coaches. Rick Barnes appears to have a legitimate top seed in Tennessee, and my all time favorite, Frank Martin, who I assume is in a rebuilding type of season in South Carolina.
IMO, Barnes lost favor in Austin due to not being Fred Hoiberg. In 17 seasons, he missed the tournament only once, the 17th season. They haven't been competitive since.
I really though KSU would not recover from losing coach Martin. It has taken some time, but I think they have done it. With Dean Wade back, this could be the team that finally dethrones KU.
