I've been searching the web for a place where I can find sales tax rates by zip code. At minimum state of Iowa, but I'll eventually need all states.

I know something like this should exist, my upgraded proofing and photcart size accepts a file - I just can't find one.

Anyone dealt with these?

Have you tried contacting the state directly about this? They have a 1-800 tax help line where they have people there to answer questions like this.

I would also check out the states efile site for taxes. They have help sections that have tons of information.

Edit:

That is the site and the list for iowa there that tyke posted.

Yeah, I've bee on the site. The closest thing I found was a list by county/city - but not zip code. I have not called them - been avoiding that. But I might do so today.

Are you looking for this for your business? You charge the tax of the district you are in. Zip codes is tough because you have to know the plus 4. Call the state, they are paid to help

I think you just need to charge based on either where your business is or the majority of your sales are - I believe.

Incorrent, in Iowa anyway. Iowa does destination sourcing/where service is performed sales tax charging. So what he is looking for is the correct way to go about it.

ISUFan, can you be more specific what you need this for? There are plenty of resources out there on the DOR's web site. I'm just curious why you specifically need an Excel document.

unless you have facilities out of state, you should only need to collect sales tax for Iowa sales.

Exactly. Which is why I think some of us are curious why ISUFan wants something to cover the country.

And in all of my research during my job I have never run across something like that and have it be 100% accurate or constantly updated.

My PhotoCart site uses zip codes to be able to import sales tax rates. Iowa is really mostly what I need - but when I have out-of-state clients that I travel to (rare right now, but will pick up) - then I need those rates too. I can just obtain the out-of-state ones on the fly.

I really should call the tax office and find out how I need to handle it. Most of my business is in my studio - but I need to be able to property give the correct sales tax if I'm shooting out in Dallas county, etc. Which may not even matter.

I link to the Tax section of my PhotoCart documentation, so ya understand the type of file I need...
