Another reason, Sage is making alot more$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ than Jackson. Also TJ was a #1 pick by the head coach, IF I remember right. If you trade TJ and keep Sage you admit HUGE mistake. So you keep the mistake and hope he has a knee problem.

Amused at this thought there is some sort of conspiracy by the Vikings/Childress against Sage. Would love to know what sort of info that is based on - other than random gum flapping.

It's not like Sage has gone to a worse situation as far as playing time goes. I do think he's on a worse team, but that's about it. If he wants to stick somewhere and see the field - he's gotta become a more consistent quarterback.

I think you are right. But hey, good chance to win a Super Bowl there.

Based on? The Giants may be the weakest team in the NFC East.

2nd round pick that experts thought could blossom into a great QB.

I agree with those who inferred that this is "burying a mistake" by the Vikings coaches and GM. They are bound and determined to turn Tarvaris Jackson into the next Warren Moon, and don't want to admit they had a better QB at #3.

I also think that Rosenfels is a huge improvement over Bomar as a backup in NY and probably worth the 4.5 million to them - plus they get a quality returner in Reynaud. Maybe Reynaud was the bonus for Minnesota being able to "hide their mistake" and save some face.

As for Sage, I think he'll be fine. Eli isn't going anywhere unless something awful happens and Sage will have to figure out where to jam another 4.5 million dollars into his account.

I'd love to see ISU former players start and put up amazing stats, but in the case of Sage, I like seeing him making serious money at the expense of teams treating him like a pawn. He's nearly 33 years old and has made 20 million plus. A few wise investments and he'll of had the last laugh holding a clipboard.

and another thing (rant).

Sometimes it is better to be able to buy 20 square blocks in Canton, Ohio than to have an ugly bust in a museum in Canton, Ohio with some snot nosed kid asking his daddy "who the hell is that?"

Not that life is a total cash-grab, but if life gives you lemons, it's good to be able to sell those lemons for a thousand bucks a piece.

I'm with you. The whole "Chilly is anti-Sage" conspiracy is absolute crap. Sage was competing to be the team's number 2 QB. Let me say that again. It's the number 2 QB spot. Think how ludicrous that sounds. It's the backup spot. There's a conspiracy to keep Sage out of the backup spot? Come on people. I'll admit, Sage has played pretty well this offseason, granted his standout game was against the backups and 3rd string of the worst team in the league. But jobs are not won or lost solely on preseason performances. By all accounts, Sage had a terrible early part of training camp. It took him a while to get up to speed. His early play may have put him way down the list. We don't know. We weren't there.

But as far as his trade to the Giant's goes, here's what it really comes down to.

Sage is...

...5 years older than T-Jack. It's becoming more and more clear that Sage's shot at starting anywhere in this league is passed. There aren't too many guys that can say they finally got their starting nod at 32 years old. That's just not how the league works these days. Youth equals potential in today's NFL.

and

... the only QB on the Vikings roster with a contract that extends beyond this year. (with the exception of rookie Joe Webb) What does that mean? That means that Sage is the only guy that has any trade value at all. His contract runs through the end of next year, and at a fairly low cap number as well. He has some value.

Both of these are reasons why the Vikings front office might see Sage as more expendable than T-Jack.

The Vikings and Childress goal was to send Sage somewhere he wouldn't play and make them look bad. This fits the bill. They did not go for the best deal, this is about possibly looking bad if Favre gets hurt and TJ fails.

And this is flat out ignorant. What teams out there do you think he has a legitimate shot at starting for this year? Seriously, take off the Cyclone glasses. I love Sage as much as anyone, but come on. He's going to be the number 2 on a quality team. That's really all he could ask. He's in a better position now.

I don't know if trading Rosenfels was some sort of conspiracy but it sure seems really really stupid. I don't see trading the guy who is clearly the best option at #2 when your #1 is a soon-to-be 41 year old coming off ankle surgery. Hell, I'm 50 and some mornings it hurts to get out of bed. I can't imagine what Favre's mornings must feel like.

I hate Childress with a passion, but that guy has consistently won more games each year he's been the Head Coach in Minnesota - the only way he can keep the streak alive is by taking the Vikings to the Super Bowl (mind you, I didn't say Win it... but I can hope!!)

Without Farve or a good QB, the Vikings wont be winning a Super Bowl for a while. Childress sucks and is an arrogant dumb***. He shoulda just owned up to the fact that TJ sucks and isnt an NFL QB and will never be. Should traded TJ instead of Sage cause this could easily be a move that puts an end to Chilly career if Favre goes down during the season.

Come on guys. The big elephant in the room is that he is a Cyclone. I've been dealing with near misses and could have beens my whole life as a clone fan. Can't imagine what it's like being a player. He just can't catch a break, some people have good luck (Kurt Warner), more people have bad luck. The emotional roller coaster ride we love to call a season, being football or basketball is brutal. I've been put through this for 20 years (that I can remember).

My wife, who is new to all of this and attended her first game at JTS Thursday night, don't get it yet either. When the game was 17-0 and NIU was inside 5 yd line, I told her if we don't hold them to a field goal, were gonna lose this game. She got ****** that I was so negative. But hell, thats how I was brought up. Thats how we were all brought up as fans. For every positive action there is an equal maybe even larger negative reaction. A few years ago, Sage goes to a team and has a great chance at starting (positive). A few months later the great flip flopper Farve comes out of retirement again and happens to land on the same team (equal or greater negative). :jimlad:

My son's best friend is an exec with the Vikings. TJ is Chillys guy, the GM signed Sage and Chilly did not want him. Chilly has final say on the roster as part of his contract.

Re: My buddy Sage

I still don't understand what Childress thinks TJack will do if Favre goes down. Sage may not be some masterful QB, but he can lead the team down the field. Jackson still makes bad decisions if the pocket collapses.

he wins because of the talent level of the team. we could easily get a better coach and win even more games. childress doesnt deserve to be a head coach in the nfl. good luck to sage in new york. but why would we trade reynaud? that leaves very little depth in the return game. sage AND reynaud for a 5th rd pick? horrible decision

That sucks they traded him to the giants, I am moving to Houston and it was all over sports talk that the Texans wanted Sage back in a big way. I would have loved to see him down here with us.

Re: My buddy Sage

Getting rid of Sage was a good move. He's not a quality starting quarterback, Favre is gone after this year, and TJax is on his way out. Use that money and go out and find a good quarterback. Yeah, Sage had great numbers against the practice squads he was facing in pre-season games. Yipee.

If nothing else, the Vikings biggest f up was not drafting Clausen. A year under Favre would've done him a lot of good. Sage isn't a long term solution. The last few years the Vikings should've been using their 1st round pick on a quarterback as they KNEW they didn't have a long term solution.

Same here. I almost bought tickets to a Texans game two years ago to watch Sage. Wish I would have.
