Rumor: Ferentz Talking To Michigan

Everybody talks about a pay cut, but I'm not sure I agree that it's an issued. He's made more money than he'll ever need at Iowa. Michigan is the better overall job. Let's say he makes half of what he's making now. Wouldn't that be worth the cut? It's not like he's in dire financial staits.

Drop Iowa and take the job. Win big games, beat OSU, compete for the Big Ten title/BCS spot and money will take care of itself. It really shouldn't be an issue. It'll be there eventually.

Even if there were a cut, say his 3M to 2M, he's easily going to be setup in new contract with more years than he has at iowa. I'd think the Michigan job is going to be a 5 yr contract minimum. I thought he's only setup with iowa through '10 or '11? His feet are already to the fire on asst coaches. Another season like this, he might be sent packing. At the very least, he'll have to make some changes he really doesn't want to.

Plus, we rant and rave about his contract - but it's somewhat incentive laden isn't it? Granted, some of the incentives are softballs.

I remember when the contract story broke a year or so ago, Tirrell was up in arms about how mediocre the qualifications for some of the incentives were. Something about $75K bonus for a bowl under 1M payout, 100K for a bowl over - a bunch of stuff like that.

Well, he didn't make that incentive - so not so much of a gimme after all

Some hawk fans think they should be in the BCS because of their advanced thinking. Illinois gets into a BCS game, and the Hawkeyes won against Illinois, so by the communitive property....Iowa should be playing in January.

I'm personally a fan of the moron who says they're going to go 10-2 next year...wishful thinking...

given that they play in the big ten and don't play OSU or Michigan and that one of the losses will be to us and the rest of the nonconference slate is about as easy as it gets short of high school teams he could be right.

It would be hilarious if Ferentz went to Michigan and Ken O'Keefe was promoted to head coach at Iowa. The hawk fans would implode.

Why would Michigan want to hire a coach with the same boring/predictable style of football as they have been playing under Lloyd Carr?

So let me get this straight. Michigan's fan base was sure it was going to get Les Miles, now it is going to be Kirkie?

That is kind of like being told that AC/DC is going to play your birthday party and when the time comes it ends up being the Bacon Brothers....

If KOK became the head coach that would be the best. I think IC would get burnt to the ground.

Apparently they like the boring/predictable type of football. I love reading the message boards of Michigan's, with lots of posters saying they will quite coming to football games if KF gets hired.:biglaugh:

The list Michigan has to choose from is embarassing. KF is certaiinly the best of the worst.

It really is surprising that there haven't been bigger names floating around. Part of it could be that it's been hidden from the public but with that big of a job, you would have expected more names to have been leaked. Now obviously there aren't any high profile coaches actively looking for jobs but I still would have expected other names by now with a little more flair.

Steve ***** was convinced yesterday on Miller's show, that they were going to offer Bob Stoops within 24 hours.

I completely agree. In fact, if Gene Chizik had been available this year, he was a sure thing for a "big"program, or if he had won seven here his first year, we might have been in trouble. I hope not, but it's a fast world.
