I'm probably going to catch some flak for this, but any chance Breece Hall fills the Seonbuchner role this season?

Don't get me wrong, if he's the #1 back, put him there. But if he's not, watch him block and hit on his high school film and tell me he wouldn't thrive there...

Oh and we have like 6 other stud RB
That’s a hot take/question.

Why?

Let him wear 28, it’s an honor to have a highly rated, up and coming running back wear the Davis’ number.

Because otherwise with Breece on the field, you'd have Brock, Nuwangu, Lang, Croney all on the bench. Or, you could have 2 dynamic weapons on the field and utilize Breece Hall's tremendous blocking ability. Imagine having a full back like Breece. Put your best 11 on the field if you can.

Again, if he's the clear cut #1, put him at RB. But that just means those other guys will get fewer reps.

And just because he is the "blocking back" doesn't mean the only thing you can do with him is have him block. You could run the same play a quarter of your running plays put the ball in your blocking back's gut and then run the option out to either side. You don't normally give the ball to the fullback for the dive real often but there is no rule to say you couldn't dive more often. Purdy could also pass out of that option look as well. The blocking back can catch out of the backfield as well.

But then again, I don't want to see Purdy take too many designed runs - no more than it takes to keep the D honest or exploit a defensive weakness. I would like him to start and finish the season as our starting QB.

When we start talking about players playing out of position I think it is a little crazy but then I also think about George Amundson who was an Iowa State QB that filled in at RB his junior year due to injuries. That fill in RB rushed for a then ISU record of 1260 yards and 15 TDs leading ISU to their first ever bowl game.

You do put your best 11 on the field, but would Breece Hall really be better than Dylan Soehner at being lead blocker on 99.99% of run plays? I have my doubts.

Put the guy in the backfield and give him the ball.
