Root against the other teams at the top, right?

If ISU goes 12-0 but loses in the Big 12 title game, it highly possible that ISU would host a CFP playoff game at Jack Trice. That wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize.
So you're say the Big12 gets two in no matter what. IF - HUGE IF the 12 get two in I could see the winner getting a home game, but the loser is heading south.

Winner can’t get a home game as they’ll get a bye and likely play in the quarterfinals in the Fiesta Bowl.

If ISU is 12-0, we are probably ranked in the top 5. And if we lose to BYU (likely a top 15 or top 10 team), I don’t think ISU drops that far in the rankings and would have a case to host a playoff game. And even if we don’t, ANY CFP playoff appearance is an epic season - even if we have to go play on the road.

Some of you guys are acting like it's still a 4-team CFP. A B12 team that goes 11-1 or 11-2 will almost certainly get an at-large. Look how high K-State (16) is currently rated with 1-loss.

Not a 2 loss. I could see a 1 loss Big 12 team maybe making it if everything else plays out right.

AP voting means absolutely nothing so you can’t use that as a reason one may make it.

No way. Some of you people are living in a fantasy world. The media hates the big 12 and the committee, like it or not is influence greatly on the media perception whether it’s true or not.

This just isn’t true. There are many respected media that has this exact same scenario. Here is The Athletic/NYT playoff projections right now. Seems about right to me. If there was some actual anti-Big 12 media, they would put in ND or
Alabama or Texas A&M ahead of BYU.

If we start to see 2-loss teams ranked ahead of 0-loss ISU, I will believe you.

You don’t think there will be at least 6 1 loss teams from the SEC and Big10 after 11 games?

Oregon
tOSU
Penn State
Georgia
Texas
Miami
Clemson

Who are we jumping in that group? Maybe tOSU if they lose to PSU, but I’m not even sure then. I believe that’s the only real high ranked vs high ranked left. The P2 conferences really front loaded schedules to avoid their top teams from losing games in November. tOSU / PSU is the only big game left. Any losses by the other teams would be an upset. And if Tennessee upsets Georgia, they’ll be above us instead of Georgia.

Isn’t that what we want? Root against the other Big 12 teams with one conference loss or fewer. Root for teams above us in the national rankings to lose.
This is tricky basically everyone in the SEC ahead of 8th place Alabama they’ll argue to get in so they can take the Tide.

Winner is NOT guaranteed a bye. It’s the four highest ranked conference champions. And yes there is serious push and narrative out there to put Boise State at that 4 spot if they run the table and their only loss is a a game at Oregon they honestly should have won.

I understand that but a 13-0 or 12-1 Big 12 champ is 100% going to be ahead of a 12-1 Boise State team.

13-0 yes. 12-1 absolutely not a guarantee. Just listen to the talking heads and in particular ESPN, who has a lot more say in this than folks realize. Whatever Heather Dinich reports is what the committee is thinking as she’s just a mouthpiece for them. She said last year Bama was getting in over Florida State and that’s what happened. And she’s already talked about a one loss Big 12 champ or worse getting jumped by Boise State.

Root for us to beat Texas Tech. Everything else is noise. Last night is a reminder that nothing is guaranteed and a lot can still happen before December.
Well yes obviously but we are off next week. So we need teams to cheer for next week and that’s Kansas, UCF, Cincy and TCU.

I want KSU, CU and BYU to keep winning. And then I hope the 2/3/4 teams in Big10/SEC take a few more losses.

If a 2 loss Big 12 team doesn't get in over 3 loss Big10 or SEC teams, then the CFP is broke from the start.

The Big10 & SEC (in concert with media companies) want everyone to buy-in that brands are automatically better. At least for first 3-4 years selection committee should assume conferences are equal. If Big10 and/or SEC prove to have better records in CFP than Big12/ACC then I'm OK with a 9-3 Big10/SEC team getting bids over 10-2 Big 12/ACC teams.

I suppose there is always a slight chance but, there is no practical way this happens. Let’s say it’s Boise State. They are ranked #17 with remaining games against SDSU, Nevada, San Jose State, Wyoming, and Oregon State. Compare that to let’s say a 12-1 ISU, BYU, or K-State that will have 1-2 Top 10 wins. There is NO WAY Boise pulls ahead of any of those teams. So while the national media conspiracy theory anti-Big 12 (but pro-MWC?) is out there, it’s not very practical or likely.

Oh boy are you in for a surprise. I guarantee no two-loss Big 12 team gets into this thing as an at large. They would have to be the conference champion.

The media, SEC and Big Ten have been telling everyone for the last year how this is going to go. They are telling us all right to our faces and some of us don’t want to accept it.

Practical and this selection process do not go in the same sentence.

Then the CFB season ends when ISU season ends for me.

I am just trying to enjoy what we have and what we can control. It’s why I don’t care about ways to get an at-large. The only sure way to get into the CFP is to win the Big 12. And the only way to do that is to be in that game. So keep winning, hope the teams we are competing with take some losses to give us a cushion and then let’s win the conference.
